Geez! I can't think of a thought possibly so ridiculous as to think the US needs to have forces insuring the civility of people in Syria/Turkey. The place is on the other side of the damned earth from us. Who the hell has any loss of prestige in the US by allowing the neighborhood to be organized by the neighbors? It can't be done any worse than the Brits did a 100 years ago, and we do not need to try. If you have ever been there doing any work, you likely find it difficult. I sure did, and I was not doing it for prestige. Back in the 70s when I was the former Product owner of a Transportation software package, a Freight line (trucking) Damascus Baghdad to Riyadh implemented my system. I was working out of the Palo Alto system center at the time and traveling all over but not to the middle East. But they wanted me to come to Damascus.
