Ehlinger throws 3 TD passes, No. 12 Texas beats Rice 48-13

Texas coach Tom Herman wanted to see his team put last week's loss behind them and start fast Saturday night.

    The Longhorns did just that.

Sam Ehlinger threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns, Jake Smith caught six passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns and No. 12 Texas rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 48-13 rout of Rice.

Purdy scores 6 TDs, Iowa State throttles ULM 72-20

Iowa State desperately needed a spark after barely beating Northern Iowa and losing a heartbreaker to rival Iowa.

Sophomore Brock Purdy gave the Cyclones the jolt they were looking for with one of the best individual performances in school history.

Purdy threw for a career-high 435 yards and tied a school record with six touchdowns and Iowa State throttled Louisiana-Monroe 72-20 on Saturday, its best scoring output in 113 years.

Pony Up: SMU beats No. 25 TCU 41-38, 1st 4-0 start since '84

While SMU coach Sonny Dykes and new quarterback Shane Buechele are focused on this season, they do understand the historical context of a win over longtime rival TCU that has the Mustangs 4-0 for the first time since 1984.

That was back in the old Southwest Conference days, only a few years from crippling sanctions that kept the Mustangs from even fielding a team in 1987 and 1988 after the NCAA's so-called death penalty.

"I haven't been here 35 years. It's a big deal for our fans, and I get it," said Dykes, in his second season on the Hilltop after being an offensive analyst at TCU. "I don't try to get caught up in all of that stuff during the season, just because I think it's a bit of a distraction. ... Look, I appreciate winning."

Shane Buechele was 23-of-34 passing for 288 yards with two touchdowns and ran for another score as SMU held on to beat the 25th-ranked Horned Frogs 41-38 on Saturday, ending a seven-game losing streak in the 99th meeting between the schools.

Ehlinger leads No. 12 Texas past Oklahoma State 36-30

Sam Ehlinger did what he usually does: throw for a bunch of touchdowns and deliver big runs. Put him together with more games like this from the Texas defense, and the Longhorns will go far in the Big 12 this season.

Ehlinger passed for four touchdowns for the third time this season, and the No. 12 Longhorns' defense held Oklahoma State's big playmakers in check for most of the game to slug out a tough 36-30 victory Saturday night to open the Big 12 schedule.

Hurts throws No. 6 Oklahoma past Texas Tech with ease, 55-16

Oklahoma receivers CeeDee Lamb and Charleston Rambo had envisioned how Saturday's game against Texas Tech would go for them.

With help from Jalen Hurts, those thoughts became reality. Hurts passed for 415 yards and three touchdowns, Lamb had career highs of 185 yards receiving and three touchdowns, and No. 6 Oklahoma rolled past the Red Raiders 55-16.

Hubbard runs for 296 as Oklahoma St beats K-State, 26-13

Chuba Hubbard entered Saturday's game as the nation's leading rusher, yet still felt the need to rebound from what he considered to be a sub-par performance a week earlier.

Hubbard ran for 296 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, and Oklahoma State shut down No. 24 Kansas State's own vaunted rushing attack in a weather-delayed 26-13 victory.

Duffey leads Texas Tech past No. 21 Oklahoma State 45-35

Jett Duffey has won as Texas Tech's starting quarterback before and has had a 400-yard passing day before. But Red Raiders coach Matt Wells' post-game compliments following Saturday's 45-35 upset of No. 21 Oklahoma State included a different element of the junior quarterback's game.

Ehlinger leads No. 11 Texas over West Virginia 42-31

Before he took a knee on the final play, quarterback Sam Ehlinger flashed the "Hook'em Horns" sign toward the Texas fans in West Virginia's stands.

He got his payback, even if he insists he'd put aside last year's defiant celebration by several Mountaineers on his home field.

Ehlinger threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores while No. 11 Texas converted three turnovers into TDs in a 42-31 victory over West Virginia on Saturday.

Hurts provides 4 TDs as No. 6 Sooners beat Jayhawks, 45-20

Oklahoma's Lincoln Riley was dissecting his team's latest easy victory, this time a 45-20 blowout of Kansas, when he was interrupted by the sound of a toilet flushing in the nearby visiting locker room.

Lamb TDs, defense lift No. 6 OU past 11th-ranked Texas 34-27

Jalen Hurts tried the Golden Hat on for size and gave a half-hearted "horns down" sign in a group photo with the cheerleaders while celebrating the way Kyler Murray couldn't in the Red River rivalry a year ago.

Now the Oklahoma quarterback will try to get the Sooners back to where Baker Mayfield and Murray took them the past two years, and where he's been himself three times at Alabama: the College Football Playoff.

Hurts threw three touchdown passes to CeeDee Lamb after two big mistakes early, Oklahoma's defense sacked Sam Ehlinger nine times and the No. 6 Sooners never trailed in a 34-27 victory over 11th-ranked Texas on Saturday.

No. 22 Baylor needs 2 OTs to beat Texas Tech 33-30

Backed up to his 1 after a sack and needing a field goal in the final two minutes to keep the Big 12's longest current winning streak alive, Charlie Brewer found a way to get Baylor another victory in its first game as a ranked team under coach Matt Rhule.

Brewer drove the Bears 97 yards to the tying kick on the final play of regulation, JaMycal Hasty ran for the winning score in the second overtime and No. 22 Baylor joined Oklahoma atop the Big 12 with a 33-30 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.

Oklahoma cruises off Jalen Hurts' five touchdowns in win over West Virginia

After No. 5 Oklahoma downed rival Texas last week, coach Lincoln Riley said a true test for the Sooners would be how they bounced back from that emotional game to face West Virginia as the heavy favorite.

Riley was pleased with the results. Jalen Hurts passed for 316 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 75 yards and two more scores, and the Sooners cruised to a 52-14 victory over West Virginia on Saturday.

Brewer, Hasty help No. 18 Baylor beat Oklahoma State 45-27

Some questioned whether No. 18 Baylor should have been a four-point underdog at Oklahoma State on Saturday. For three quarters, it looked as if the oddsmakers might be right.

Oklahoma State led at halftime, in the third quarter and again in the fourth, but Baylor responded with 21 straight points in the final 10 minutes to beat the Cowboys 45-27.

No. 15 Texas beats Kansas 50-48 on last-second FG

On the brink of being upset, Texas put the game in the hands of quarterback Sam Ehlinger and on the foot of the Longhorn player that coach Tom Herman refuses to call by name.

Ehlinger came through again. So did Cameron Dicker the kicker.

Given the ball with just 1:11 to play after Kansas had taken a one-point lead, Ehlinger drove the Longhorns to the Jayhawks' 21-yard line.

Dicker did the rest, calmly booting a 33-yard field goal as time expired to send the No. 15 Longhorns to a 50-48 victory in a wild game with a frantic fourth quarter that saw the teams exchange six touchdowns, two field goals and a blocked extra point for a 2-point safety.

Skylar Thompson, Kansas State stun No. 5 Oklahoma 48-41

There was never a moment of uncertainty on Kansas State's sideline when fifth-ranked Oklahoma raced to an early lead, or when the wounded Sooners began to mount a frantic fourth-quarter comeback.

There might have been just a bit when they recovered an onside kick.

"It was a little anxious," Wildcats defensive end Wyatt Hubert said.

Anxiousness that soon gave way to elation.

Officials reviewed the recovery with 1 minute, 45 seconds left in the game and determined the ball hit an Oklahoma player a yard early, giving it to the Wildcats. They ran out the rest of the clock to finish off a 48-41 victory that dealt the Sooners' national title hopes a major blow.

Freshman Duggan shines as TCU knocks off No. 15 Texas 37-27

Max Duggan wiggled out of a sack that would have been a safety, made Sam Ehlinger pay right away for one of the Texas quarterback's career-high four interceptions and saved probably his best completion for last to beat No. 15 Texas.

Pretty good timing for the TCU freshman's best game.

Duggan threw two touchdown passes, including a tiebreaking 44-yarder to Jalen Reagor the first play after Ehlinger's second interception, and ran for a clinching score to lead the Horned Frogs past the Longhorns 37-27 on Saturday.

No. 12 Baylor still undefeated after 17-14 win over WVU

No. 12 Baylor got quite defensive to remain undefeated.

While Charlie Brewer threw for 277 yards with two touchdowns, the defense blocked a late field goal try while allowing only one big play, and the Bears won a game when scoring less than 20 points for the first time since 2006.

"A tremendous, tremendous defensive game," coach Matt Rhule said after the 17-14 victory over West Virginia on Thursday night. "We are still learning that it's OK just to play defense and not worry."
