BTW: there is zero chance of this happening, given Olshey's cautious approach, especially with assets he has just acquired. ...ALTHOUGH, who was it who brought Paul to the Clippers again?.....
I have to preface this by saying if Chris Paul magically realized that he could extend his career playing less minutes and was willing to accept a bench role at this point in his career then just on paper having a guy like that would transform our bench from looking pretty poor to one of the better benches in the league. Plus you are right that as far as "stars" go I believe OKC would happily trade him for expiring contracts so the cost wouldn't be super expensive. Even if I was to ignore that CP3 would never accept that role, where you start to go wrong though is saying he could play/guard the SF or including Roberson in the deal. The final straw in the hell no column is that in the 2021-22 season we'd be paying Dame, CJ, and a 36 year old Chris Paul over $118 million. Over $44 million of that would be going to CP3. Hypothetically if we were to be involved in a CP3 type trade I think we'd be better off taking back whatever say a team like Miami was willing to trade for CP3. Something along the lines of Whiteside and Meyers Leonard to the Thunder, CP3 to Miami, and Dragic and Olynyk to Portland. We may have to give up a pick or an asset in that type of trade, I don't know. Then we have Dragic leading our 2nd unit which would improve them offensively and Olynyk would just slide into our temporary Nurk replacement role as someone who is much more comfortable handling the ball out of the pick and roll and passing out of the high post. Our defense would suffer until Nurk is back healthy though.
Shit no. I'd rather shave my balls with a rusty butter knife than root for a team with that piece of shit on it.
Sure he had a great career the last few decades. If we could trade for his past you do it. Problem is your trading for his future as he approaches 40. Stupid trade.
Tonight Chris Paul had 6 point making 3 shots. He's 175 lbs. Simon's had 15 points on 6/9 shooting. Hell Chris Paul might be the 4th string PG here. Paul's paid 41 million next season. Then $44 million until 2022. This is such a stupid proposal it must be a sarcastic joke.
I would also accept (and indeed prefer) Jrue Holiday. Now N'Awlins has Lonzo and Alexander-Walker, along with Josh Hart and JJ Reddick, I'm not sure they should think they're getting value for his contract. However, I imagine the price would be steeper than CP3, as Holiday's contract isn't so toxic.
I would argue that it's not true that 'nobody will like' this idea. I suspect that Thunder GM is ready and willing.
