plenty of closers with a WHIP over 1. Brad Hand Will Smith Raisel Iglesias Kenley Jansen Ian Kennedy Alex Colome Taylor Rogers Sean Doollittle Hector Neris which would mean that they arent doing a lot of 1,2,3 innings if your averaging a baserunner per inning
Ken Giles 96% save % Kirby Yates 93% Alex Colome 91% Blake Parker 91% (11 total saves opportunites) Felipe Vazquez 90% Will Smith 89% Carlos Martinez 89% those are the only guys who converted better than Chapman last year...
>My take: 1.Cole would want Alex Rodriquez money. 2.Stanton doesn't have a clue as a first baseman. He couldn't think that fast. 3.Keep DJ at first and also have him try catcher too. 4.Give Larry Rothchild all the golden parachute money he can choke out of the organization because that's the way NYY operates. 5.German got depressed, left baseball and is currently working a pretzel cart in Yonkers. 6.Pay Betances fair and get him a couple of good suits and a fur coat from Macy's for his departure when he gives NYY the finger as he walks out the door.
It is amazing how Cashman is not capable of obtaining &/or developing steadfast pitching. But watch him obtain shortstops & second basemen!.....if they could only pitch LOL.
Umm, it was just a copied and pasted list...that's all. I did not single anyone out. And your Greg Bird analogy is way off target. I've already said I wanted Bird gone for next year. Justify if you can, why why relievers are pigeon-holed into "mid-reliever" and/or "closers"?...it makes no sense whatsoever. Who's to say that the more crucial part of a game is not in the 7-8th innings with runners on base with one out in a 1 run game, as opposed to leading by 3 runs in the 9th inning with no outs and no one on base ? And while you're at it, explain why some people put a premium on a pitcher gets credit for a "save" or a "hold". For example, a pitcher is called in for the 9th inning with his team leading by 3 runs, he promptly gives up 5 base hits and 2 earned runs before getting the 3rd out...but he's given credit for a "save"?
"Conversion rate"?...OK, thanx for at least using your own hand picked stats to show that there are in fact pitchers who can do as well if not better than Chapman. Again, using "saves" as a barometer?...and again, using only "closers" as the only ones who can get batters out in the 9th inning? So you're admitting that facing the heart of another other team's batting order with runners in scoring position in the 7th or 8th innings in a 1 run game, is not as crucial as facing the bottom of the order in the 9th with a 3 run lead?
So you are now dismissing the role of a closer, there have many pitchers who have pitched well in the middle innings who have failed when the spotlight is on then at the end of the game.
Yeah at least im using some kind of stat as a barometer vs just copy and paste a list. Why bother having any stats if we cant use them in an argument. Your saying that because chapman had only 16 1,2,3 innings he is unreliable...yet save % is not something to go off of..whip isnt something to go off of. You want ken giles as your closer? Who are the better closers in todays game that you would take over chapman. No copy and paste.
Actually, yes I am. You might want to do a little research on the subject...I would do a little "copy and paste" to help you out, but that appears to upset you.
You still havent answered the question, Who do you want as the closer that is better than who we have right now unless your answer is the copy and paste job in which none of those is the answer.
Are you dense or simply reading impaired?...have you failed to grasp what I've been saying?...or did you not even take the time to read and digest what I've said. And I've also asked you questions that you skipped over or refused to answer. I think I've already stated that I'm not for "pigeon-holing" certain pitchers for certain innings, and I've voiced my reasons why. Did you miss that too? Again, do some research, read up on Keith Law, Bill James, and others...or maybe go back and reread what has been said here, and if it still does not sink in, read it again until it does.
Cole not committed to playing next year with Houston or on the west Coast....show him the money, Cashman. https://www.dodgersnation.com/dodge...ce-on-playing-for-west-coast-team/2019/11/01/
I personally do not take any quotes at face value. Theae athletes are trained to give comments that are ambiguous. Only a complete idiot is going to say yes...its the Dodgers only. You are going to hear...i love my time in houstonx it woulf be a dream come true pitching close to home, who wouldnt want to wear the historical yankee pinstripes..blah blah blah
The article was posted as simply a retort to the contrary reports that Cole would most likely either go to the West Coast or resign with Houston.
Springer and Correa are arbitration-eligible this year. Verlander and Cranky i.e. Greinke, are pulling in 68 million (a yr) through 2021. I would be surprised if Houston can match an offer. I would be surprised if the Dodgers can outbid the Angel's as well. Then again with all that Time Warner Brothers money, feeding damn near the entire Dodgers payroll per year; who knows. He'd look good in Pinstripes. So might Strasburg... Cole Strasburg Tanaka Paxton Montgomery Turn Severino into a Closer.; Happ and German also.
It’s all about money. He wants the west coast but he’s be an idiot to take the Yankees off his list if only to drive up his payday.
I'm hearing more rumors out here on the Left Coast; about the Angels willing to make Cole a higher offer than the Bums.
