Virginia finally gets easy NCAA win 63-51 over Oklahoma

Virginia coach Tony Bennett made a last-minute change in his starting lineup and the top-seeded Cavaliers finally breezed through an NCAA Tournament game to make their first Sweet 16 in three years.

Bennett opted for Mamadi Diakite to start instead of Jack Salt against Oklahoma and the junior scored 14 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Cavaliers to a 63-51 win on Sunday night.

Virginia Tech beats Liberty to earn a 2nd trip to Sweet 16

The final seconds ticked down and the celebration began for Virginia Tech. The more than half-century wait for a return to the Sweet 16 was finally over.

The fourth-seeded Hokies advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history, knocking off 12th-seeded Liberty 67-58 in the second round of the East Region on Sunday

North Carolina returns to Sweet 16, beats Washington 81-59

After making an early exit from the NCAA Tournament last season, North Carolina breezed to the Sweet 16.

Luke Maye and Nassir Little each scored 20 points and the top-seeded Tar Heels beat Washington 81-59 Sunday. They never trailed and moved on to face fifth-seeded Auburn on Friday in a Midwest Regional semifinal.

No. 1 seed Virginia outlasts No. 12 Oregon 53-49 in NCAAs

Ty Jerome's 3-pointer was memorable not only for its timing, but because it marked one of the few Virginia made against Oregon.

Jerome gave the Cavaliers a three-point lead with 3:34 remaining, and then they used their trademark defense to smother the Ducks and make it stand.

No. 1 seed Virginia reached its second regional final in four years with a 53-49 victory over 12th-seeded Oregon on Thursday night in the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers face third-seeded Purdue in the South Regional finals Sunday for a trip to the Final Four.

Zion, Duke avoid upset, edge Virginia Tech 75-73 in NCAAs

There was nothing Zion Williamson could do but watch. Once again, Williamson and Duke were at the mercy of an opponent's last-second shot at the rim. Once again, the Blue Devils and their phenomenal freshmen marched on in March Madness when the ball didn't drop through.

Williamson and No. 1 overall seed Duke moved into the Elite Eight by erasing a deficit and then holding on to edge No. 4-seeded Virginia Tech 75-73 on Friday night.

Virginia shakes off Purdue 80-75 in OT to win South Region

From embarrassment to exhilaration. From early exit to regional champ. From bracket busters to net cutters.

Virginia, the first No. 1 seed to lose to a 16 seed a year ago, survived overtime and Carsen Edwards' staggering 3-point show Saturday night to make it to the Final Four for the first time since 1984.

The top-seeded Cavaliers needed a last-ditch buzzer-beater to send the game to overtime and finally contained Edwards in the extra period to hang on for an 80-75 victory over Purdue in the South Region final.

Guy hits 3 FTs with 0.6 left, Virginia shocks Auburn 63-62

Hard to call Virginia basketball boring after the last two games. And the Cavaliers have pretty much put the choker label to rest, too.

From one-and-done to NCAA Tournament miracle men, Virginia will play for the national title for the first time after pulling off another last-second stunner. Kyle Guy made three free throws with 0.6 seconds left, steadily swishing each one as debate immediately started over the sequence that sent him to the line, and Virginia beat Auburn 63-62 Saturday in the Final Four.

Comeback! Cavs get their title, 85-77 in OT over Texas Tech

MINNEAPOLIS -- Now that, Virginia, is the way to close out a season.

    And quiet those critics, too.

Led by De'Andre Hunter and his NBA-ready game, the Cavaliers turned themselves into national champions Monday night, holding off tenacious, ferocious Texas Tech for an 85-77 overtime win -- a scintillating victory that came 388 days after a crushing setback that might have sunk a lesser team for years.

Nwora scores 23 to lead No. 5 Louisville past Miami 87-74

Jordan Nwora went 4 for 6 from beyond the arc, and from above the basket he didn't miss.

Nwora threw in a dunk -- literally -- to go with his outside shooting, and totaled 23 points and 12 rebounds Tuesday to help the fifth-ranked Cardinals win their season opener at Miami, 87-74.

    No. 4 Duke edges third-ranked Kansas 68-66

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was pleased with his young team's poise in the season opener, especially that of sophomore Tre Jones.

Jones scored 15 points and Cassius Stanley added 11 of his 13 points in the second half to help No. 4 Duke beat third-ranked Kansas 68-66 in the opener of the Champions Classic on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

Freshman Anthony scores 34 points, No. 9 UNC beats Irish

Cole Anthony didn't need much time to make his mark on the North Carolina record book.

Anthony set the school record for scoring by a freshman in his debut, finishing with 34 points and 11 rebounds while leading the ninth-ranked Tar Heels past Notre Dame 76-65 in their opener Wednesday night.

Anthony, Pierce help No. 9 UNC beat UNC Wilmington 78-62

There's no questioning Cole Anthony's scoring punch for ninth-ranked North Carolina. Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams would the Tar Heels to find some reliable production to complement their star freshman.

Anthony had 20 points and 10 rebounds to help North Carolina beat UNC Wilmington 78-62 on Friday night, though the Tar Heels had only three players carrying the load after managing only two double-figure scorers in the season opener.

Jones leads No. 4 Duke past Colorado State 89-55

Those freshmen at No. 4 Duke are figuring out how to score at this level. It helps that they have a veteran sophomore getting them the ball.

Tre Jones had 15 points and eight assists in the Blue Devils' 89-55 rout of Colorado State on Friday night.

Diakite has 19 points and 13 rebounds for No. 11 Virginia

Mamadi Diakite got lots of cheers before his first home game of the season as videos played with highlights of Virginia's run to its first national championship a year ago.

He gave the crowd plenty more to cheer with 19 points and 13 rebounds in the No. 11 Cavaliers' 65-34 victory over James Madison on Sunday night.

Nwora, Enoch lead No. 5 Louisville past Youngstown St. 78-55

In its first home game of the season Sunday, Louisville at times looked like it was in midseason form against Youngstown State.

However, coach Chris Mack still found at least one flaw his No. 5 Cardinals need to fix.

Jordan Nwora scored 21 points and Steven Enoch added 17 points and a career-best 14 rebounds the Cardinals (2-0) to a 78-55 victory over the Penguins (1-1).
