I don't think that's the reason. In fact, if the gun fairy put a gun under the pillow of every citizen in those countries, I doubt it would change the government. Might increase the murder and accidental death rate, though.

I disagree. I heavily armed public of millions of people is a hell of deterrent from government control. Why do you think the founders put in the second amendment in the first place?

Are you really saying that addiction isn't the main catalyst in smoking deaths?

Advertisement lead to the addiction.....I was addicted to tobacco most of my life...got the habit from cowboy movies and magazine ads, then in the military it was part of the culture...I had guns too but never got into paranoid weapons stockpiling or anything beyond a hunting rifle or shotgun...we didn't think about govt oppression when I was growing up as a reason for having a gun.....that came with the movies glamorizing shoot em ups..the action film..Rambo….etc...now video games.....being in a war didn't make me feel guns make you safe, that's for sure..guns in conflict usually attract more guns

There is advertising for every single product that we purchase. They don't all have addictive properties. And some people have more addictive personalities than others, but it's still addiction that is the main reason for people ruining their lives with alcohol, with smoking, with drugs, and yes.... even with video games. And it's not because of advertising. People still get addicted to cigarettes and we have known for decades how addictive they are and how deadly they are.

It’s gotta be a horrible existence to live in a daily fear so bad that a person is deathly afraid of losing their precious AR15 so they can spray bullets in case they are suddenly attacked in their home

So my mom from the ages of 8-12 years old was raped, repeatedly by her stepdad and other men my Grandma brought around and when I was young she always wanted weapons in our home because she really was legitimately scared of that happening again. Now as my brother and I got older the weapons were phased out because my dad didn't want us around them. However, to trivialize that people do have legitimate fears based on real experiences seems counter-intuitive.

I specifically said AR15. I think these (overwhelmingly) MEN are not worried about getting sexually assaulted or raped. This is exactly the kind of comment that makes it impossible to argue for gun control. Keep your pistol. Keep your handgun. Nobody has ever said they want all guns gone. But no, within four posts we hear about Hong Kong and women being raped so we need AR15 type weapons.

Who are you to tell someone what they can use to defend themselves with or what they can have around to make themselves feel safe?
I mean I would definitely agree to stronger gun laws, and regulations for that industry and who can own a gun. You're in the same breath basically saying oh you must have a horrible existence if you're scared of being attacked in your home. I don't think you are looking for much of a conversation on "gun control" with your comments either. My "issue" wasn't your position on AR15's it was on what in my opinion your comment seemed to trivialize the existence of people who have fears even in their homes.

Edit: This was your opening salvo - "To be honest, I really don’t give a fuck. Anything that in any way hurts anything or anyone with regards to guns I’m all for." Looks like that comment also makes it impossible to have much of a conversation on gun control too.

Honestly, I think it's a worse existence to live in fear of an inanimate object, or a mass shooting that has a 1 in 11,125 chance of happening to you.

finish my whole sentence then. ".... so bad that a person is deathly afraid of losing their precious AR15 so they can spray bullets". People can be afraid (obviously). But to live in a home and not just need a weapon, but an AR15, is different. I dont think anyone needs one. If someone breaks into your home and you want a gun, go get one. If you feel you need to spray a hundred bullets, thats different. You think that I believe nobody should live in fear. Thats ridiculous. I said its horrible to live a life where you need specifically a weapon like an AR15. Much different. There are many people who own AR15s who have even said they arent necessary.
