I know Stotts isnt going anywhere, and at the moment Im not even arguing he should get fired.
Hammon, Udoka, Few, Messina, Canales are all suggested here, those seem like decent suggestions to me.

Ettore Messina? That cant be who youre talking about. That's my suggestion. Said his name a million times.

I also like Ime Udoka, fwiw.

Wanted Coach Bud in 2018. We missed the boat on that one.

Messina and Udoka are. What makes you think they aren't?

Let’s be clear. I have advocated hiring Messina just as long if not longer.
But let’s not fool ourselves into thinking he is any kind of defensive mastermind of a coach. He would need a great assistant as most all good coaches do.
Now go back to booing the team.

While I agree that Stotts isn't going anywhere, will have to disagree that he isn't at least part of the problem.

    • Last in assists
    • Last or near last in fast break points
    • Near the bottom in forced turnovers
    • Enabling certain styles of play
    • The defensive 'scheme'

All of those come from the coach especially when it is over such a long period. Coming up with strategies like 'leaving Steph wide open all game long'....where else is that coming from except from the coach? Stotts seemed like a good assistant that is a player's coach that they all like. They have never won more than 1 game in their final playoff series under him and his lack of adjustments at times is mind boggling. 3-24 in the final series of the Playoffs under Stotts. I'd like to see any other coach in history being swept/gentlemen swept out of the Playoffs. That doesn't strike me as very good.

Well, to be fair our team was 1-12 against the Warriors. We were just vastly outmatched against a historically great dynasty.

But yeah, even taking those ones out overall it's not a pretty picture.

Anyway, the good news is that it doesn't look like we have to worry about how we do in the final series of a playoffs this year. That shit ain't happening.

Stotts is good at player development, though, which is really what the rest of this season is going to be about.

Agreed, 3 series against the Warriors, but Portland is nearly the only team to have such a terrible record against them. In the Warriors historic 5-year run:

    • Jazz: 0-4 .....Winning percentage of .000
    • Blazers: 1-12 Winning percentage of .076
    • Pelicans: 1-8 .Winning percentage of .111
    • Spurs: 1-8 ......Winning percentage of .111
    • Rockets: 7-16 Winning percentage of .304
    • Grizzlies: 2-4 Winning percentage of .333
    • Clippers: 2-4 .Winning percentage of .333
    • Caveliers: 7-15 Winning percentage of .318
    • Thunder: 3-4 .Winning percentage of .428
    • Raptors: 4-2 ..Winning percentage of .667

So only the Jazz have a worse winning percentage against the Warriors and they only played one series. That was the year Golden State went 16-1. So that tells me even in the years the Blazers made the Playoffs, or perhaps won a series (or two) they weren't close to being contenders. Yes I know, injuries, which are part of the game. The Warriors had their share of injuries which may have cost them 2 more titles....but they at least made it to the finals those years. Portland hasn't won a WCF game since 2000. That is the last time they were a contender....and that is what you want, at least having a shot.

This is my main problem with Stotts supporters. I have always been in the camp that if you're going to suggest something (like trading someone) then you also need to state who you would target.

Some people have given suggestions: Becky Hammon, Ime Udoka, Ettore Messina, Jay Wright, and Mark Few to name some. Others have wanted coaches like Mike Budenholzer who was available the summer after the Pelicans sweep.

The Warriors hired Steve Kerr with no coaching experience after firing Mark Jackson. The Raptors hired Nick Nurse after firing a guy who won Coach of the Year. Saying someone who is doing a crappy job should keep his job because there isn't a great solution isn't the best way to run things.

All that being said, the real reason there isn't much of a response is because the team owes Stotts over $20 million if he's fired. A contract that Olshey argued in favor of just a few months ago. He's not gonna get fired.

The one coach I wish became available is Erik Spoelstra. He adapts brilliantly, his teams compete like crazy and he's Portland through-and-through. Of course, (a) Riley won't let him go, and (b) now we've acquired Whiteside, there's no way he'd come here.

This was the guy I've always wanted also. Would be the perfect fit. Unfortunately, he also just signed a 4 year extension this past summer.

lol I've been wanting Messina ever since he came to the states, i was shocked he even took a job as an assistant.
Here in Euroleague-ville Messina would be referred as Legendery-Messina on TV broadcasts.

Unfortunately, he just signed a 3 year contract in Italy... Contracts are more flexible in EU, but i don't know if he would even want the job.

It actually looks like Stotts is trying to get fired so he can take his money and leave. Some of his decisions look like actual sabotage.

Fact is he is a Euro coach. Defense will never be his strong suit.
However you might have a point come to think of it. The NBA is going more Euro every year it seems. So maybe he can cover that side of the ball also. Stotts has never and will never be a great defensive coach either.
Believe it or not I am ready for a change. Just won’t tear apart his decisions and team. Mostly because I am just a fan on the sidelines. I have no idea what issues he is dealing with on any given night.
