Indiana mayor Dennis Tyler arrested by FBI in City Hall corruption probe
By Robert Gearty | Fox News

Muncie, Ind., Mayor Dennis Tyler -- a Democrat nearing the end of his second term in office -- was arrested Monday by the FBI as part of a sprawling public corruption probe that has snared several officials in his administration.

The indictment charged Tyler, 76, with one count of theft of government funds, Fox 59 Indianapolis reported.

Prosecutors alleged he accepted $5,000 from a sanitation department official named Tracy Barton in exchange for using his influence in the awarding of contracts, according to the station.

The charge would carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum $250,000 fine.

Tyler appeared in court Monday and was released after a "not guilty" plea was entered.

Speaking to reporters Monday afternoon, U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler accused Tyler of breaking the public's trust in elected officials.

"When people in positions of public trust choose to line their pockets at the expense of the very people they serve, the costs can be massive," Minkler said. "To be clear, I'm not talking about just simply accepting $5,000 in cash. I'm first talking about a loss of trust. In a democracy, people believe that those they elect serve them first, not themselves."

Earlier, FBI Indiana spokeswoman Chris Bavender told Fox News that Tyler was arrested at his home at 7:30 a.m. local time.

“I can confirm an arrest warrant was executed at the home of Mayor Dennis Tyler this morning and he is currently in custody,” she said.

Tyler was elected mayor in 2011. He didn't run for reelection this year.

The FBI raided City Hall offices in 2017 as it investigated Craig Nicholas, a former building commissioner, and the awarding of no-bid contracts to demolition companies he owned, Fox 59 reported.

After he pleaded guilty in 2018 to federal crimes, he was sentenced to two years in prison, the station reported.

Tyler’s arrest was part of an ongoing investigation into public corruption that so far has resulted in the indictment of six public officials, Minkler said.

Minkler, who has been the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Indiana since 2014, said the investigation has yielded nearly 200 subpoenas, hundreds of witness interviews by FBI agents and “hours and hours” of physical surveillance.

Puerto Rico senator, 7 others arrested by FBI in corruption investigation

By Nicole Darrah | Fox News

A Puerto Rico senator awaiting trial on fraud charges was taken into custody Wednesday morning by federal authorities in connection with an investigation into alleged corruption that also resulted in the arrests of seven others, officials said.

Abel Nazario, a 49-year-old currently serving in the U.S. territory's 26th Senate, was apprehended as part of the probe, an FBI spokesperson said, but further information on the nature of the charges was not immediately revealed. Information was not immediately available about the seven others who were arrested Wednesday in connection with the probe.

PUERTO RICO CROWDS HAIL GOVERNOR'S RESIGNATION, BUT SAY THERE ARE STILL A 'LOT OF CORRUPT PEOPLE' TO REMOVE

Following Nazario's arrest, Puerto Rico's Senate President, Thomas Rivera Shatz, asked for Nazario's resignation. A spokesperson for Nazario told the Associated Press the senator maintains his innocence.

Nazario was previously arrested by federal authorities in September 2018 on charges of wire fraud and falsifying documents, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Puerto Rico. He was accused of defrauding his employees while serving as the mayor of Yauco, a southwestern town in Puerto Rico, where he was an elected official from 2000 until December 2016.

Prosecutors allege that, while he was mayor, municipal employees were required "to work two voluntary hours per day" — which the U.S. Department of Labor determined was a violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Nazario agreed to pay nearly $590,000 in back wages to 177 employees.

Authorities, however, said they later learned the city of Yauco was withholding employees’ wages, despite Nazario’s pledge that he would not retaliate against workers.

Nazario benefited from the money withheld from employees, investigators said. Then-Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló — who resigned in August amid protests — asked for Nazario's resignation, but he refused to step down.

Well, if the mayor of Muncie and a senator in Puerto Rico are corrupt, then doesn't it logically follow that all politicians (not named Trump) are corrupt?

If you look at this thread, he has been regularly updating it for a long time, with articles on government corruption. At least in his opinion. Just saying.

Political donors Ahmad Khawaja and George Nader charged with making illegal contributions to 2016 campaign committees
By Vandana Rambaran | Fox News

Two Lebanese-American businessmen are among eight people charged with conspiring to funnel more than $3 million in illegal foreign campaign contributions to an unnamed candidate in the 2016 elections, the Justice Department announced on Tuesday.

In an unsealed 53-count indictment, prosecutors alleged that Ahmad “Andy” Khawaja, CEO of an online payment processing company, and Clinton supporter George Nader, conspired to conceal Nader's $3.5 million in campaign contributions to an unnamed 2016 presidential candidate by making them in the name of Khawaja, his wife and his company, Allied Wallet Inc., all while Nader allegedly reported to an official from a foreign government about his efforts to gain the campaign's political influence.

Prosecutors also alleged that Khawaja donated $1.8 million to several political committees, which allowed him to host a private fundraiser for a presidential candidate and a private fundraising dinner for an elected official in 2018, according to the Justice Department's press release.

Although the indictment does not specifically name the 2016 candidate, campaign finance records indicate that the recipient of the donations was Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Since 2016, Khawaja personally gave $3 million to Democratic candidates and groups, including $1 million to Priorities USA, the main super PAC supporting Clinton’s presidential bid, and $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund, The Washington Post reported. He also hosted a fundraiser for Clinton alongside several other high-profile donors in August 2016.

Nader was also a key witness in former special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 elections -- is in federal custody on unrelated charges of importing child pornography and traveling with a minor to engage in sexual activity, both of which he has pleaded not guilty to, the Justice Department said. He had pleaded guilty to a federal child pornography charge in Virginia in 1991.

In addition, six others -- Roy Boulos, Rudy Dekermenjian, Mohammad “Moe” Diab, Rani El-Saadi, Stevan Hill and Thayne Whipple -- are charged with conspiring with Khawaja and each other to make conduit campaign contributions, conceal excessive contributions and related offenses, U.S. authorities said.

Sometimes I post a lot, sometimes not at all.

Depends on what's happening in the world and if/when I have free time from my 2 jobs.

All you gotta do is not read my threads, put me on ignore, and remain peacefully unaware.

Surely you can do that? :dunno:
