This is precisely why we need more guns in places - to deter people with guns from considering shooting at people. We need to arm military bases, they should not be sitting ducks.
I believe those are the rules. Guns and ammo are locked away while on base (correct me if I’m wrong). There are armed security guards, however.
Yeah, the armory has armed guards. I once guarded an armory. I also carried a loaded 45 when I guarded a prisoner. i once carried a loaded 45 when I went on a prisoner chase up in Montana but turned in the weapon as soon as we got back to Ft. Lewis.

The prisoner was being held by the Air Force who picked him up at his grandmother's house. After we delivered him to Ft. Lewis he appeared as our cook the very next day. Just a very nice but frightened young man. Not at all like the rapist I had to guard. Edit: While guarding the rapist in the hospital I learned that hospital patients had to clean their own beds every day. No rest in the Army.
