Ha ha ha mess. My son called me from Hawaii with the news. He woke my sleepy ass up since it’s after midnight so I was very happy but I told him I was going to kill him when he gets home. LOL
Holy shit! George’s sons unloaded a shitload to catch this fish and at the same time changing Cashman’s image as the ‘bottom barrel scrapper’. I guess ten years without a Championship finally has sunk in! .........it’s the pitching that gets you to the World Series........and if you are lucky, you could win the Big Kahuna!
9 years. Hmmmm..........Cole & the Yankees will be lucky if he completes 6 of those years. Amen to that!
Interesting side note. Boras said one of the keys to the deal was the Yankees bringing along Andy Pettitte to speak with Cole.
Hate the deal myself, lot of commitment money wise to one player. Old Fats Domino tune: "oh what a price, I had to pay , for loving you. Cashman at his best check writing episode ever. Now lets some real General Management moves that include getting rid of those broken down nags like Sanchez and Stanton for starters.
Yeah, they got their guy but DAMN! Still a lot of work to do before opening day...the only position that is an absolute lock is Judge in RF.
Another plus for the Yanx signing Cole is that we'll no longer have to face him. Posted this earlier in another thread...as a batter, Cole is nearly impossible to hit...it's really unfair. "
Signing Cole not only give the Yanx the best pitching in BB it also makes them the best team in BB. He's also the first true #1 starter the Yanx have had in a long time. In addition to Cole being a #1, the Yanx also now have THREE #2 starters. Here's a few more points about the contract itself. 1. None of the money is deferred. 2. A full NTC. 3. Opt out after 5 years.
The money I have no issue with. Nine years is a LONG time for a pitcher though. That’s takes him until 38.
God forbid this guy comes up with an injury in first couple of years. Hey, I agree.....it’s not my money......besides, the brothers Diddle & Doodle have not been spending big bucks during their moratorium. Many of us here have been screaming their pitching was not championship caliber. My guess is by the time Cole gets to 38 yrs of age, he’ll long be gone. Players no longer are staying with one team for a long period,,,,,unless you are Brett Gardner. And to be honest he is not a top nine player anymore. I do not revere Cashman like many Yankee fans. Until these Yankees win that evasive 28th World Series, I think the guy still has too many fingers plugging the holes in the Yankee ship!
wonder if, God forbid, he ends up with TJ...does insurance cover his salary for the entire time he is shut down? Does it count towards the luxury tax?
I see the same circumstances as @cagedlion. If he gets injured, then that's a big wad for the Yankees to swallow.
