    I have always opposed rah-rah flag waving jingoism, from the time I was in high school and refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance as a protest against the Vietnam War. I am American by virtue of having been born within political boundaries, and never felt it conveyed any special status. So it is ironic that Trump, by attempting to classify me as a new “national origin” due to my Jewish heritage (although I’ve been an atheist since age 13), that I now must proclaim clearly that I am an American.

    Unlike, say, Irish-Americans or Chinese-Americans, who can trace their ancestry to a specific country, Jewish Americans can come from virtually any country on earth. My grandparents were all immigrants; two from Poland, one from Russia, one from Slovenia. I have always simply said I was of East European descent. None of them came from some mythical country of “Jew-land”.

    It was stated that making us a new, nationality will enable blocking or banning the anti-Israel Boycott Divest Sanction (BDS) movement on college campuses, although Nazis and white supremacists are “very fine people” who are terribly persecuted when students refuse to listen to them. Bad ideas need to be fought politically, not by naming people a new nationality by executive order. And while many Jewish Americans are sympathetic towards Israel, it is not our nationality.

    After “Christ killer” and “money grubber”, the top anti-Semitic slur used against Jews has been disloyalty or at least divided loyalty. Trump himself has used this slur on many occasions. From the Dreyfus affair, to Nazi Germany, to Stalinist purges, to McCarthyism and the attacks on brave patriots like Alexander Vindman and Marie Yovanovich; not really French, not really German, not really Soviet, not really American, the other, the Jew.

    For the record:

    My national origin is East European
    My culture is secular Jewish and American
    My religion is none
    My nationality is American.

    As I understand it (and according to CNN), the executive order simply states that "Discrimination against Jews may give rise to a Title VI violation when the discrimination is based on an individual's race, color, or national origin." It doesn't define "jew-ness" as any of those things.

    Discrimination based on religion is already illegal. The order specifically defines Jews as a national origin.

    Is that not your option as of this order? You still may use East European if you wish?

    When I was a kid in the mid 50s in Oswego, now Lake Oswego, the joke going around was something spoken to another White Nationalist "If I knew you were coming I'd have baked a ****." However, Jews were not the only ones ridiculed. Others were as follows:

    1. Blacks
    1. Jews;
    2. Germans
    3. Italians
    4. Japanese
    5. Chinese;
    6. Women;
    7. Actually the least denigrated of the list was Catholics.

    Kind of ugly, huh.

    Fortunately that list only came to me from other children my age, obviously taught to them by other children and some nasty adults somewhere along the line.

    It wasn't until we moved to NW Portland and I turned 12 that I began to realize just how wrong that was.

    I might add that I never heard that crap at school or at church or in the Boy Scouts or directly from any adult.

    Of course Lake Oswego, the merger of Oswego and Lake Grove, is now completely different and most of the people are proud of their acceptance of other differing people.

    Didn't someone get banned for posting the N word in some form or the other?

    Is posting a racist joke about Jews ok? Or is it not racist? Just bigoted? Wait, it was anti-semitic..duh

    I guess that does add to the discussion. Gonna go google some more jokes like that to post. Be right back.

    Yes, they did. Posting slurs of any race, religion, culture, etc on this site are not accepted. Lanny's post has been edited. Reading Lanny's post, I understood he was not using such language to proliferate hate, but to share a valuable lesson. Still, such language is not tolerated here.

    His post has been edited. Other posts using his as an excuse to use more of such language have been removed or edited as was deemed fit.

    Do not google slurs or disparaging jokes to post here. They will be removed.

    Ha!
    You lack any wisdom. Not one word in the post you deleted was intended to be a slur on anyone. Simply a little history, and quite apparent you are unaware.

    I note both you and Lanny were using it in a historic manner, but such language is not to be used to here.

    One more step down the tube. People should be aware of the how and why what seems to be a slur to you, came and went.

    I agree that names/references/slurs used were not against someone, and in context were valid. I wouldn't necessarily have used them, but in the context of what he was talking about, it made sense to use them.

    But I also can understand the reason for deleting them, and don't think that it's a big deal.

    Deleting posts intended to inform can not be a positive.
    When you google some of those terms, you get a wrong answer on several.
    Lanny's post was loaded with inaccurate information.
    For example, the reference to White Nationalist in the 50s is wrong.
    "The first documented use of the term "white nationalist" was 1970, according to Merriam-Webster.[16"

    I have no issue with your correcting. Like the N word, those words are not ok to post in any context.

    I did not use it.

    But in any case, your liberal dictator approach is not appreciated by me. You delete posts then pull a reason out of your ass to cover the why.

    But I do understand why you do it. Being an INFJ character you have good intentions where the feelings of others are concerned. Even to flaw of denying them the correct information due to you inferring evil feeling intentions.
    It is a processing flaw you need to work on.

    Understand it, and adjust. I would be to your benefit and credit.
