What are the chances of him re-injuring the leg?

I've heard that the bone usually heals stronger after a break like this. That might be complete nonsense, I've just heard it a lot.

And I have no idea if there's any increased risk of him injuring something other than the same bone.

He said he’s been doing work outs like this “for a while”. Mid February is two months from now.. that seems far

February is his projected return, I personally hope he waits longer unless the team turns the season around. A fully healed Nurk would be a smarter play than rushing him back.

What makes you think February would be "rushing him back"? If he plays in February I'm sure it's because he is fully healed.

How do you rush back from a broken bone? It’s either healed or it’s not.

I'm guessing it could be mental. Over compensating, not ready to put full weight/force on his legs, etc. Runs the risk of injuring another part of his body by over compensating.

I listened to an interview with him and he said he was gonna come back "double beast". That's good enough for me. Let him come back when he feels ready.

Hayward had a weak return as well, he was scared of contact and physical play when he came back (which is understandable).

You can come back stronger with a broken leg than a ruptured Achilles. It’s been proven with Paul George

Hayward didn’t break his leg. It was his ankle.

That's going to be pretty much the case no matter when he comes back.

Ive never had the type of injury he had, but Ive had several serious sports injuries and I’d concur with this, its so hard mentally and definitely takes a while to get your mind right.

    https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/did-you-know/broken-bones-grow-back-stronger-sort

“During the reparative phase a mineral deposit at the site of the break is formed called a callus. This calcium collection is really strong, so, while the bone is healing there is a period when the break site is stronger than it ever has been. But, the rest of the bone surrounding the break site actually demineralizes because of inactivity (since you’re probably in a cast). So the bone overall weakens during the healing process.

When all is said and done the bone will return to basically the strength it was before you fell off your bike, no stronger, or weaker.”

Obviously everybody’s situation is different. I have mentioned on here that my son broke his leg on August 29, 2018 the first football game of his senior season in high school. Spiral fracture of his tibia AND fibula. Had surgery, rehabbed and was finally given a go to go full speed on June 1, 2019. Reported to college in LA July 6, 2019 for the skill position players to start training for the season. Everything up to that point was fine. Full training camp started the middle of August and that was when he started having problems. Swelling after practices, pain where they inserted all the terminator style metal. He decided to redshirt. November 1, 2019 he had surgery to remove all the rods and screws. Doc said that should really help and it has. He is in the middle of rehabbing again and is feeling good again.
We will see when he’s back with full contact, but the doctor did say it should be stronger than before if you can believe it.
Nobody’s injuries are the same obviously, but that’s why I hope Nurk just eases back in or even waits til next season. Gotta think big picture. Whiteside is holding down the fort pretty well in my opinion.
