one more thing: it was a total joke that Whittingham was named Pac-12 coach over the year over Cristobal. That was other Pac-12 coaches being petty and scared
How Oregon won this game giving up a kick-off TD and only 204 yards of total offense is mind-boggling! When the defense should have been gassed after being on the field all game, they force a HUGE 4th quarter turnover and then give up 4 yards on Wisconsins final two series in a 1 point game. Tip my cap to Gang Green 2.0!
The defense is legit the offense... has some issues. I don't care if Herbert had 3 running TD's, the offense was bad most of the night. They won because the defense kept them in it and got turn overs. It was nice to see Herbert get to run a bit, but this was a defensive slugfest.
Throughout history the PAC-8/10/12 has always disrespected the Ducks successes. Nevermind that the Ducks have been the best in conference the last 20 years or so and have at times seem the only team to put up a fight
Cristobal is setting the Ducks up for long term success if he keeps recruiting the way he has. I love the work ethic. I haven't been enamored with the offense, but overall he's been a huge upgrade to me from Taggart.
mostly true, although you need to keep in mind the Wisconsin defense was one of the very best defenses in the country...and they had a month to prepare the other side of that is that Oregon's offense made plays when they had too. They were down 6 in the 4th Q, got a turnover, and scored. They got the ball back and ran the clock out when Wisky was selling out to get a stop, and Oregon did it by passing on downs that everybody knew they were going to run on and frankly, the Ducks really missed Redd in this game because he's the type of flanker that freezes LB's and safeties. He was a big loss
As for Herbert not running more on the RPO's, I have that on good authority that came from the coaching staff. I was also told you would see more of those in this game because he had made it through the season. RPO's are how QBs get hurt and they wanted to limit those a lot during the season.
Ive had issues with the play calling most of the year, I think bluntly its boring and is pretty easy to dial in on. Some of that may be injuries to various WR’s throughout the year but of the top teams in the country they were one of the least explosive and that might be ok, its part of the identity they want to have. If I have one wish for them its to get a legit “superstar” RB, they have 2-3 good rb’s but not great or better and the style they run needs a Stewart, Blount or Freemen type back there.
With the Hype around the program and recruiting success they continue to have that running back you hope for is sure to happen. Running backs like to go where there are solid offensive linemen and coaches.
I agree I think Cristobal will bring someone in. I'm just saying I think that's what the next real evolution is for them. He wants to do like 2010-2015 Alabama style and I think the next thing he needs is those Derrick Henry esque RB's to really get there.
Ive heard from 5 of my buds and past co=workers form Milwaukee and Madison in the last hour and they were impressed with the toughness of the D and Herbert's abilities. And believe me coming from them its a compliment as they don't think we play football on the left coast.
Look at Tua ands whats happened to his draft status. Herbert didn't need to come back but Im sure everyone involved with his decision had input with regards to protection. ,
exactly...Tua was headed toward being a top-5 pick and 40 million guaranteed. He's too much like Russell Wilson not to get taken really early but if he goes pro now, he may be a 2nd round pick and get 10-20 million guaranteed Herbert risked a lot coming back, but he was loyal to the UofO, his coaches, and his teammates. That's commendable behavior
I don't think many (if any) coordinators on Top 10 teams would even take the UNLV job. Might be a win win win for everyone involved.
Well the game wasn't pretty, but the weather sure was..... picture perfect. Great day at the Rose Bowl. The pregame was awesome with the Stealth Bomber coming in low. Like the ASU game.... having Redd miss the game at the last moment really hurt the offense. They needed his speed. Both D's came to play. Oregon did a great job slowing down Taylor. Bottom line that makes three Rose Bowl victories in a row after a century of frustration. I'll take it!
