I don’t understand. Are you saying it’s obvious?

Maybe you should post more clearly as so that way people can understand :auto::rockon::biglaugh::bdaycake:

Let's also not forget about the "suck for Luck" discussion when Andrew Luck was going to be the highest-rated NFL prospect in a couple decades.

Point is that tanking is very much not uniquely an NBA concept.

It’s common practice in the NBA. Almost a part of the game at this point. I don’t think it’s quite that prevalent in other sports, although your examples do prove that it’s not exclusively an NBA tactic.

The primary difference, I think, being the degree of impact a single player can have on a team's success in basketball as contrasted with the other sports, and how quickly. A great QB can do something similar, but those are much harder to recognize/differentiate. In baseball, a great pitcher only plays once every 5 games; a great hitter only gets 11% of a team's at-bats. A top NBA player is 20% of a team's (on-court) lineup by himself, can easily take 30% of their shots, and can be on the court for 80% of their minutes without difficulty. Is it any wonder that NBA teams are far more willing than teams in other sports to sacrifice a year or two for the possibility of obtaining a franchise-changing talent?

Good points. I would point to the NHL though when it comes to single player impact. It’s right up there with the NBA, and they aren’t tankers. They claw till the end, even if only to fuck other teams out of pure spite to be dicks. I have to say I respect that more than tanking. You’re never going to see an amazing season turnaround or “Cinderella story” from a team with draft picks on their mind. I’ve watched an 8th seed team win the Stanley Cup. And these are 80-some game seasons like the NBA. I just don’t think you’ll ever see something like that in the NBA with tanking being as prevalent as it is.

I’m sure the team can see what kind of condition he’s in in practice, so whether he comes back or not before the deadline shouldn’t have too much affect on a Whiteside deal, although it wouldn’t hurt. And that’s assuming the team is looking to trade him. I like Whiteside, would love him as Nurks backup, but unless they’re 100% certain he would re-sign, a trade is probably for the best.

That's textbook perfect eyes-closing on that drive from Nurk. I bet he learnt that from Meyers

Have you contacted the Blazers yet about coming from Australia? I'm sure they would probably set up some special privileges for you as the Blazers like that kind of publicity especially for far away fans. Maybe even a quick meet and greet with Melo.

Why is Nurk not on the bench during games?! What does it mean? Is he doing cardio to simulate game endurance?
