No. 5 Kansas pulls away in second half, beats Stanford 72-56

When Udoka Azubuike had a rare quiet day on the offensive end, he kept after it on the boards, and Kansas turned to its perimeter game to finally pull away.

Isaiah Moss made three straight 3-pointers during a decisive second-half stretch and finished with 17 points off the bench, and No. 5 Kansas overcame an inconsistent performance on both ends to beat Stanford 72-56 Sunday.

No. 22 West Virginia rallies, upsets No. 2 Ohio State 67-59

West Virginia freshman guard Miles McBride remains an avid Ohio State football fan. The Cincinnati native doesn’t share the same love for its basketball team.

McBride scored a season-high 21 points, including six in the final 2:22, as No. 22 West Virginia rallied for a 67-59 victory over No. 2 Ohio State on Sunday.

No. 23 Texas Tech beats CS Bakersfield 73-58 before Big 12

No. 23 Texas Tech's next nonconference home game will almost certainly prove to be a bit more challenging.

But the Red Raiders have their first six Big 12 games before No. 19 Kentucky visits the plains of West Texas.

For now, fourth-year coach Chris Beard feels like his team got a good win in their last game before conference play, 73-58 over Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday.

No. 6 Baylor wins 9th in row 83-57 win over Jackson State

No. 6 Baylor shook off the rust after a long break, and next goes into Big 12 play.

After missing their first six shots Monday, in their first game in 12 days, the Bears used an overwhelming run to take control and beat Jackson State 83-57 for their ninth win in a row.

Balanced scoring, stifling defense lead WV over Okla. St.

It was a night where the ball just wasn't falling for either team, but in the end, West Virginia's defense was more stifling and that was the difference.

Offensively, Oscar Tshiebwe scored 12 points and Derek Culver had nine points and 12 rebounds to help lead No. 17 West Virginia to a 55-41 victory over Oklahoma State on Monday night.

No. 4 Baylor wins 11th in a row 57-52 over No. 22 Texas Tech

Coach Scott Drew and No. 4 Baylor got exactly the kind of game they expected, and extended their winning streak even with a season-high 20 turnovers.

"Very proud of our guys from this standpoint ... we knew it was going to be a rock fight," Drew said. "You had two great defenses and two teams that really pride themselves on the defensive end."

Davion Mitchell scored 14 points, Mark Vital grabbed 13 rebounds and the Bears won their 11th game in a row, 57-52 on Tuesday night at No. 22 Texas Tech, which hadn't lost at home in nearly a year.

No. 2 Baylor wins 13th in a row 68-55 over Iowa State

Davion Mitchell took the inbound pass for No. 2 Baylor at the end of the first half, quickly worked his way down the court and stopped just short of the 3-point line on the right wing and got fouled, just as he expected.

Mitchell made all three of his free throws with less than a second remaining, then made two 3-pointers early in the second half as the Bears started stretching their lead on way to their 13th win in a row, 68-55 over Iowa State on Wednesday night.

No. 1 Baylor wins 15th in a row, beating Oklahoma 61-57

Freddie Gillespie and the Baylor Bears can now say they have been No. 1 during the season.

"Outside of that, guys have bigger goals," Gillespie said. "That's nice, thank God for it, but now just move forward."

MaCio Teague had 16 points, fellow transfer Davion Mitchell had 13 and Gillespie had a double-double as the Bears won their first-ever home game as the No. 1 team. They held on to beat Oklahoma 61-57 on Monday night, after leapfrogging Gonzaga for the top spot in the new AP Top 25 poll released earlier in the day,

No. 14 West Virginia cruises to 97-59 win over Texas

Oscar Tshiebwe sprinted the length of the court to chase down an errant Texas inbounds pass. While the home crowd implored him not to touch the ball, Tshiebwe grabbed it anyway just before it reached the corner end line, took one dribble and slammed the ball through the net.

It was that kind of night for both the Mountaineers and the Longhorns, who limped through the fifth-worst loss in program history and the worst under coach Shaka Smart.

Tshiebwe had 13 points and 11 rebounds, Derek Culver scored 13 points, No. 14 West Virginia jumped to a big early lead and coasted to a 97-59 victory over Texas on Monday night.

Ugly brawl breaks out at end of Kansas State-Kansas game

Third-ranked Kansas and Kansas State ended their bitter showdown Tuesday night with a wild melee in the disabled seating behind the Wildcats' basket that included punches, shoving and at least one player threatening to swing a stool.

The Jayhawks were dribbling out the time on their 81-60 victory when Silvio De Sousa was stripped by DaJuan Gordon near mid-court. Gordon tried to go for a layup and De Sousa recovered to block his shot and send the freshman sprawling, then stood over Gordon and barked at him -- triggering both benches to empty into what amounted to a rugby scrum.
