You can’t teach lateral quickness. Sorry try again.

If CJ is out for a while it will be interesting if we see assist and/or offensive effciency go up. Probably won't end up being a large enough sample size to come up with an obvious conclusion, but still interesting. I don't think Portland changed their offense tonight, so maybe it is a personnel thing.

Oh my bad, letting Luka walk into an open 3 is way better.

So they should just give up and sag the big when they give up 120 points in a game (98 in the first 3 quarters)?

Only 22 in the 4th when they hedged, just sayin'

Down 4 and if we only have CJ in there we could have tied the game. Oh well... we win tomorrow

Would have been nice if at least one of the bench guards had stepped up with CJ out.

I feel like you don't understand what hedging a pick means then. It literally has nothing to do with lateral quickness if the whole team knows how to rotate.

It's not a matter of teaching it, but a matter of trying to put your personnel in the great position to use their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. If you want Whiteside out at 30ft, that's fine. Spolstra didn't think that was a good idea. Stotts doesn't appear to think it's a good idea.

Sorry coach they hedged at times the entire game. Try again. The bigger problem was getting called for fouls every time they breathed on Luka.

You got changed up your defense at times hoping it confused the other team. But they don't practice hedging due that couple times two guys was on player with out the ball. Another problem is communication on defense is also bad.

An effective hedge will use some lateral quickness because cheating out slow and early will lead to an easy slip and a 4 on 3. After the hedge, you now have your only shot blocker at 25-30ft, is required to sprint back, indentify the proper rotation, and possibly close out again. Draymond Green is great at this. Collin, not bad at this. Whiteside....

And once again this is basically saying open shots are better than hedging.

So you actually think rotating has nothing to do with lateral quickness? Really?

A bad hedge will often lead to an open layup (100%) or an open 3 (50%). That is probably worse.

1990's NBA coaches would be rolling in their graves if they saw this. And I'm not saying you're wrong!

I guess hope isn't a very good defensive philosophy.
