You all been following this? Saw this trending on twitter. Mostly speculation, but supposedly there are a few sources claiming that Astros players wore buzzers that underneath their jerseys to alert them to pitches. Altuve hit a HR in the ALCS in 2019 and told his team mates not to tear his jersey as he rounded third base. He was asked about it after the game and asked him to repeat the question and gave some odd response that his wife or girlfriend would be mad. Now speculation is that he was reminding them not to tear the jersey so as to not expose the buzzer. None of this has yet to be verified, but seriously that is some next level cheating right there if true. I am a bit fascinated by it all.

The cheating scandal hammer came down on the Astros, Red Sox, and several people involved in it. There is a discussion about it in the Yankees part of the S2 forum.

The problem is for me the players are not being held accountable. Yeah managers and GM's are loosing their jobs, but how come the players aren't being held accountable? They are the ones cheating. They new they were cheating. I hope there is enough of a uproar that these players feel some of the repercussions also. Pete Rose bet on games and received lifetime ban. I think what these guys were doing is worse then anything Rose ever did.

Sign stealing has been a part of baseball since signs were first used. All part of the game.......

Agreed. MLB is looking dumber and dumber for banning Pete. They’re a bunch of hypocrites.

Sign stealing is one thing having a camera in center field video taping the catchers signs and relaying them to the batter is different. If the guy on second can figure it out and relay it to the batter in time fine, but the camera and then either having a buzzer or hitting a signal on a garbage can is beyond a part of the game.

This isnt like someone is on second and learning the complexities of the catchers signs. This is someone OFF the field telling someone ON the field what pitch is coming. That is cheating. Worse than what pete rose did.

As a Giants fan, I feel delight that this screwed over the Dodgers twice..haha. And another part of me that actually feels a little bad for them.

You almost had a like there....until you expressed potential sympathy for the Dodgers. They can rot in hell. I’m currently struggling to keep loving the Giants since they hired an ex-Dodger to run them....into the ground......I’m counting the days till he’s gone.

And if the President of the United States can lie, cheat and murder without accountability (and is even lauded for it by many), who freakin’ cares if a few silly signs are stolen during what is and always will be a game???

Just like the President, integrity is a human quality and they should be held accountable. Game or not, people get affected by cheaters. They are showing millions of people (just like the president is) that they are above the game (or the law).

Integrity dying is bad. Apathy is worse. Take it beyond the game and see how its humans affecting humans.

I think it would be more accurate to say it’s human behaviors affecting humans. It’s what we do. I’m not apathetic, I’m cynical. Or a realist. It’s just hard to work up much outrage over cheating at a game that affects only those who choose to participate (as opposed to politics, which affects everyone). If the outcome of sign stealing had brought more attention (and profit) to MLB (like the steroid era did) I’d bet the reaction would have been different. Or at least kept hidden longer.

Humans have been cheating at the game (whatever the game maybe) ever since that game has been invented. Winning is all that matters (just read the Blazer game threads). These coaches, players, GMs etc are paid millions and they want to keep being paid millions. Integrity doesn’t pay their bills. And they probably viewing playing by the rules as being “apathetic”.......So they’ll find another way to cheat.

I'm amazed you're even a sports fan at all lol.

I get what youre saying about sports/politics, i was merely speaking from a sociological vantage point (and perhaps a bit anthropological as well)

As someone who is not really a fan of baseball let me say, that is whack. They basically cheated themselves to wins all season.

Any kind of cheating sets a bad tone for us all especially with impressionable kids. I say, throw the book at 'em.

    Cheating sucks.

Its also part of life for those with selfish interests prioritized over morality.

Cheating sucks and there will always be cheaters, liars, etc....

    its the American way...

There might always be cheaters and liars but I don't have to accept it.

What else will you do? Have sleepless nights over others lack of morality you have no control over?
I don't agree nor accept, but i do understand two things. It will always happen and i have no control.

Oh, I totally got what you were saying, Stren. And agree 100% But human nature shoots that idealism all to shit unfortunately. Humans can rarely help being who they innately are, no matter how hard they might try otherwise. There are only so many Mother Teresas in the world.

From the sportsmanship angle, I got that beat outta me in youth sports, first as a youth, then as an adult. Kids are fine just playing the game.....until adults make it all about winning. And by the time those kids become adults, it’s okay to cheat. Winning is everything and and the means of winning don’t really matter.....until you get caught. Sports are just a microcosm of real life. And real life is serious enough without getting my panties in a bunch over a game. Been there, done that and it was a total waste of my time and energy.

Politicians cheat to get elected, employees cheat to get ahead, spouses cheat at Scrabble. I can’t control what others do to make themselves feel good. I can only control how I react to it. As long as I can look at myself in the mirror and feel okay about how I’m living my own life, fuck a bunch of cheaters. They’re the ones who are truly impacted in the end....

Cheaters may or may not prosper, but they still have to live with themselves at the end of the day.....
