Certainly not losing any sleep over it. But it certainly belies the 'have some truth' or 'stepping my game up' respsonse as it was actually quite close to being 100% true. Which off a guess for a making light comment, certainly got quite the response. Thank you....I made some $$ off of each one.

Arizas value to us for trades would be his expiring contract, not that teams would want him. Hed likely be traded to match salary then bought out.

I still don't think we will keep Whiteside and I think we can always sign Melo for a fairly small contract if we want. I've stated else where that I hope this was to give us the money to take on a better player in a trade soon, probably with Whiteside going out..

I think Olshey's thinking went along the lines of, "This season now has different goals than it did at the beginning of the season. We no longer need a savvy vet at the stretch 4 to help us. Bazemore hasn't meshed the way I thought he would because his role has changed. For the price of two 2nd round draft picks a few years from now, I can get 80% of what Baze can do in Ariza, take a shot at a young player (Gabriel) and get one more big body (Swanigan) to rebound for a few minutes a game until Zach returns. I also save a ton off the cap."

I get the salty tone of everyone this season because our high hopes have been dashed. However, I think the move is not a terrible one. People are hoping for a needle-mover, but with our hand, we just don't have the assets.

Not that there was any doubt of this, but Stotts just confirmed on the radio that Ariza will be starting at the 3 as soon as he's available to join the team.

The beauty of the Ariza deal is we get half a season of evaluation and can decide if we want to take the savings or keep the player for next season. Unfortunately Bazemore just wasn't cutting it and I think Ariza can add something to the team this year and possibly next year as well. If we keep him next year he then becomes a 12.8 mil expiring contract to trade.

I think the team would have been more fun to watch if Moses started at SF

if you’re referring to him not seeing a smart guy, even when he looks in the mirror, I think he had it right the first time.

I disagree. Ariza is having the worst season of his career, and even then he's producing more than Baze was with us.

Judging by some comments on this board, he’ll make a bigger impact than people think. Using his real plus minus so far this season, he grades out better than

    Oubre
    Barnes
    Harkless
    Wiggins

And if you wanna look at his defensive rpm he grades out better than every small forward except Lebron, Kawhi, Tobias, and Butler.

Forget all that. If you care about production he just needs to be better than Bazemore. The bar is set so low it's almost underground.

True enough. The problem is, who really cares if he makes the team marginally better in what is already a lost season? He is not a long-term answer, so IMHO he is pretty much irrelevant!

He’s under control for next season. If he stays productive, he will be an important glue guy. If he doesn’t, his contract will be valuable if Portland wants to make a play for guys like Blake, Aldridge, etc.
