you can throw in the towel and still make logical moves. This is a logical move. A minimum salary level trade exception has little value. A 2.6M DPE has more

I really don't expect much more activity from Portland but I would expect Olshey to stay with his M.O., which is to hang around the periphery of bigger trade discussions and look for low cost scraps with a possible upside

Does anybody see a realistic deal that would let us move up in the draft - say into the top 5?

Well, looks like Powell just blew his Achilles out. Maybe he’s a blazer after all.

First team Whiteside met with the last time he was a free agent?

    Dallas.

    Just sayin.

Just saw this and thought we could make the Powell deal. Then read about Powell.

    Lmao.

Yeah, Dallas may have just found themselves in a much more desperate position.

Would you (or anyone else) take Tim Hardaway Jr for Whiteside? Would the Mavs do that? They'd have to send a contract out to another team but it would be just enough to get us under the tax. We could probably get them to take Hezonja back too so that we could sign or trade for another big without going back over the tax line.

No on hardaway. I’d want Wright (and I guess Lee for matching purposes)

Also, if the Mavs still had Courtney Lee they could send him and the GS 2nd round pick they have for 2020 for Iggy. So basically they'd trade Hardaway/Lee/Filler/GS 2020 2nd for Whiteside and Iggy.

Maybe Chicago would be dumb enough to take Hardaway. So Blazers would get Porter, Mavs get Whiteside, and Bulls get Hardaway/filler?

Edit: Mavs could then take on Felicio with their TPE to incentivize Chicago to do this.

honestly I’d probably ask for one of their seconds in a Whiteside deal.

    What about this?

    Dallas gets Whiteside and Swanigan

Minnesota gets Hardaway Jr (or Lee if they prefer an expring), Delon Wright (PG need), and Blazers 1st (and maybe 2nd(s) from Dallas)

    Portland gets Covington and Dieng

Houston does not match up well when the Lakers go big. Powell, McGee, James, AD...that's a lot of size for Capela to contend with.

Now we suddenly find Dallas is in a worse spot if they want to contend. Will they be giving Neil a ring???

If Minnesota got the GS 2020 2nd in this deal, it would almost be like getting two 1sts for Covington and getting a solid PG.

A fairly simple trade would be Whiteside and Hezonja for Wright, Lee, and one of their seconds.

Another thing I like about Dallas as a potential trade partner is since the two teams have similar systems, the adjustment period for all the players would be accelerated. For example, we have a need for a guy that can run the second unit. Wright could potentially come in and do it almost immediately.

The problem is that Olshey hasn't seemed to target guys like that in the past unless they're cheaper or on their rookie deals.

Don’t know why the Knicks would do that.

This was written in 2018. Seems they’ve maintained their interest. The coach hasn’t changed, and the need is now bigger than ever. Pretty obvious conclusion. I’m almost at the point now that if this deal doesn’t happen, it’ll be because Olshey wasn’t interested.
