Whiteside, Hezonja, and future 2nd for Favors and Redick?

Cut a lil salary, open up more playing time to young guys. Redick out means Hart, Alexander-Walker get more run, Favors and Whiteside are basically a wash, though Whiteside is a more modern NBA center, Hayes could learn from his timing as they both are shot blockers.

The pelicans aren’t exactly fighting for the playoffs either.

They could/should get more for those two than a second rounder.

How does the perimeter defense improve?
Assuming Nurk and Collins and Skal are back next season, I would focus on getting guys who can defend the perimeter and multiple positions, like the ones we dumped in the offseason, or better of course if possible.

Favors is expiring and Redick makes like 14 mil a year and is 35+. Getting a first is crazy imo, that’s like us expecting to get a first for Whiteside.

The most I’d concede is maybe Simons but then the Pelicans would have to sweeten the pot a bit.

Except they just signed JJ so I doubt that's their mindset.

    Ideal template:

    TEAM A GETS: Whiteside
TEAM B Gets: $9M contract from Team A
PORTLAND Gets: $12M contract from Team A, $7M contract from Team B (absorbed with Bazemore TPE).
    - This would give Portland a $14M-$15M Traded Player Exception, and get Portland out of the tax.

An example of this type of deal (questionable whether either team takes it):
    DAL Gets: Hassan Whiteside
    NOP Gets: Delon Wright
POR Gets: Courtney Lee, Darius Miller*, $14.3M TPE**
    * - Absorbed with Bazemore TPE
    ** - TPE amount = Whiteside - Lee

I'm curious if anyone else can come up with trades that fit this template.

Portland could even get more creative with this template that'd almost certainly have to include Dallas:
DAL Gets: Whiteside, $9M contract (Team B)
Team B Gets: Delon Wright, Courtney Lee
POR Gets: $7M Contract (Team B), Min Contract (Team B)
    - This would get Portland a $27.1M TPE from Whiteside, since the $7M contract would fit in the Bazemore TPE and the min (or small contract) wouldn't need to matched, could be fit in Layman's TPE, or even Hood's DPE.

    Example:
DAL Gets: Hassan Whiteside, E'Twaun Moore*
NOP Gets: Delon Wright, Courtney Lee
POR Gets: Darius Miller**, Jahlil Okafor***, $27.1M TPE
    * - Dallas absorbs E'Twaun Moore with Barnes TPE,
** - Portland absorbs Darius Miller with Bazemore TPE
*** - Portland absorbs Jahlil Okafor with min. exception or Layman TPE
    - $27.1M TPE = Whiteside's contract - $0

The problem with that trade is that Dallas would end up over the tax but they could offload Marjonavic somewhere and be fine (maybe to Portland, reducing the size of the $27.1M TPE to $$23.6M.

If this deal was there for Portland, I'd even toss 2nds around to whatever team wanted them.

A $27.1M TPE would be a phenominal asset. Portland could be in play for a free agent making up to that amount this off-season because they could sign-and-trade for them without having to send salary back (could attach cash and make it worthwhile). They could sign someone for $15M (Bogdanovic?) and keep $12M of their TPE and still have room to use the Full MLE.

If not, the $27.1M TPE would be a huge trade deadline asset.

Basically, it's time for Olshey to get creative and try to accomplish something like this. Obviously much, much, much, (much) harder said than done, but if he accomplished something like this, it would give us tremendous flexibility over the next year all for minimal assets and a player who'd likely leave this summer.

I think Neil should prioritize next season over worrying about who would bridge the days between Whiteside getting traded and Nurkic’ return. I’m not saying throw in the towel, but don’t let that stop you from executing a Whiteside trade, assuming there is one to make.

Yeah, no thanks. Griffin had knee surgery at the end of last season and just had another surgery this month. He still has two more years on his contract at $34 M per year. No way should the Blazers be looking to trade for him.

This is the type of trade I could see happening.
Favors and Redick immediately help Portland for a run, imo.

Blake Griffin seems to be on the same career path as Chandler Parsons, he's just arriving a bit later. The idea of BG is a light year better than the reality

That’s the problem with most of the “major” theoretical targets..they all have issues. Porter hasn’t been healthy in two years, Love isn’t durable and is owed a billion dollars. The one that makes the most sense is Aldridge, but idk about the Spurs willingness to go into a rebuild while Pop is still around.

I think the best strategy would be to target complimentary players, Covington being the prime one.

And not trade CJ?! You aren't following your typical narrative, bruh.

Glad you aren't the GM though, because that is a terrible idea.

Two moves that would make the most sense. A deal with Minnie for Covington using Ariza and filler. Another move would be to see if we can get GS to let Burke go for the Hood DPE and some filler. This way it helps for today as well as gets us a 3/4 for the future as well without breaking the bank.

I don't see any chance really for this. Pelicans are rumoured to even take Jrue off the market in order to make a run for the playoffs, they won't change that for a 2nd round pick. If later they lose any chance and want to play the young guys they can just play the young guys, no need to do that yet just for some shitty compensation.
Btw with Favors on the court they have been really really good, the problem is he has had many health issues this year, but i think they want him for the future as well. He is still 28.

If we keep Whiteside I hope we don't make the playoffs and Neil gets canned!

If we keep Whiteside the only logical explanation is that they are concerned about avoiding cap issues going forward. If that is the case then it was likely that he was not allowed to trade Whiteside.
