Does Dame get it? 34.1 pts, 8.4 asts, 5.1 rebs on 49% from the field, and 45% from three. Hit 4.9 threes per game. Unfortunately, we were 8-7. Not sure who else in the west is in contention.
Tough to imagine anyone else putting up those numbers with that efficiency. Maybe Harden over the month but Dame beat him twice.
Harden's numbers aren't close to Lillards when you look at shooting percentage as Harden is shooting 35% from the field and only 27% from 3 during the month of January.
Kawhi Leonard, maybe? 32/8/5 on 50/38/89 (plus his usual outstanding defense) on just 33.5 mpg, while going 8-2 in the 10 games he played. However none were as remarkable as any in the phenomenal 5-game stretch Dame has just had. I think recency bias wins it for Dame over Kawhi's boring consistency.
It's not going to take long (or many more games on national TV like last night) before Dame starts getting some real MVP love. I mean, sure, he was 4th 2 years ago and 6th last year, but he was also +2800 to win this year in the pre-season. Giannis is a front-runner, sure, on a team where he's The Man (TM) and they're like mostly undefeated, and Doncic is playing great and is a great storybut Dame putting up 50-burgers or close every night on national TV against playoff teams is getting him some pub. Jackson and JVG were gushing over him last night. The TNT dudes do it all the time. He's finally getting some of the numbers to go with his leadership, and he has a situation where no one doubts he's putting the team on his back and carrying them until their 3 injured starters come back. He's probably still going to lose to Giannis, but I don't think Kawhi, LBJ or Harden has a much better case than Dame right now, and Kawhi and Luca are slightly injured. Obviously, more to follow, but it's getting to be "how long can this *really* go on?!" time.
Good. I was starting to think that Dame getting 2x PoW and an all-star selection would strip him of a big part of the chip on his shoulder. Thank you, NBA.
if you count assists as 2 points each it’s pretty close, and the lakers DID have a better record....it’s not completely unfathomable
