I don’t think he’s getting a monster deal at his age. Biggest possible contract I can see him obtaining is 3/54.

There's not a ton of teams with cap space greater than the MLE. Unless he's a S&T, I don't know if those teams with space would really be bidding 18 a year on Whiteside. With the MLE at around 10 a year, I don't see him getting much over that

This is a key that not many are paying attention to. There's like 6-7 teams that will have cap space. Of those, few will be in the market for a center.

I'm guessing Atlanta will take a strong run at Drummond. If they dont get him, they may fall back to Whiteside. Outside of that scenario, I'm not seeing a lot of competition for Whiteside's service

No way LAC trades both bigs for Whiteside, and Harrell isn't getting moved IMO.

I’d pay whiteside 10m to stay. He’s worth that even as a backup. Portland puts a lot on their centers shoulders.

That what she said. I just cringe all the times I see CJ guard:

    Doncic
    Harden
    Butler
    DeRozen
    Booker
    Simmons
    LeVine
    Brogdon
    Dinwiddie
    Gilgeous-Alexander
    Fournier
    Burks
    Barton
    Etc.

All who are taller than CJ and easily score over him.

Except being taller doesn't mean you can easily score on someone.

I won't insult you by asking if you watch games, but I am tempted.

I wonder if Boogie could be a FA target for us next year. He'd probably be available for peanuts and he wouldn't cry about a backup role given his situation.

Think I'd take him for the minimum over whatever Whiteside would warrant in FA.

I rather pay Whiteside 10m than give Boogie 2mil if it means Whiteside actually plays

It took you a whole day to come up with that? I've heard of jumping, has CJ?

You seriously with a strait face can say that having a 6'3" shooting guard, with below average hops, and an average at best wing span, is not a detriment on defense?

To be fair to McCollum, he’s improved defensively this season, at least according to RPM. It’s hard to quantify defense and DRPM has flaws, but last year he had one of the worst DRPMs among shooting guards, ranking in the 60s. This year he’s ranked 20th, not great but not a liability either. Simons by comparison is ranked 127th (out of 129)

Its not as detimental as people make it out to be. Wouldnt make a difference if he was 6'5 in your picture instead of 6'3.

I'm pretty skeptical about those DRPM numbers for CJ. Somebody who has been a minus defender for 4 years suddenly becoming a plus defender seems more like there's noise in the numbers. CJ being +1.22 while Lillard is -1.20 looks pretty questionable as well. The opponent on/off shows that Dame's defensive on/off is 2 points better while CJ's is 0.7 points better.

other team numbers also don't support the idea that CJ is suddenly a + defender. Portland's defensive rating is 113.2. But both Dame and CJ have defensive ratings of 116; that's 2.8 points worse than the team and considering the minutes CJ plays, if he was actually a plus defender his rating wouldn't be that bad. CJ is also close to the bottom of the team in DBPM at -2.0. Again, that doesn't square with his DRPM number

CJ's not a better defender than Jrue Holiday, or Khris Middleton, or Paul George, or Mo Harkless, or Avery Bradley, or Kyle Lowry, or Eric Bledsoe, or Ben Simmons, but his DRPM says he is...hmmmm

On the one hand, I think some Portland fans are underestimating his contribution. OTOH, the last time he was in a contract season he played well enough to get a monster deal - then left everyone in Miami seriously disappointed![/QUOTE]

Nobody is suggesting that he gets a monster deal.
