TAMPA — Aaron Boone said he believes Gary Sanchez’s defense behind the plate has gotten better, but there continues to be work to be done.

“There’s still a lot of meat on that bone,’’ the Yankees’ manager said Wednesday.

Sanchez is working with new catching coordinator Tanner Swanson.

“He’s improved, I feel like, a lot over the last couple of years, and we feel like with Tanner coming in and the work they’ve already begun, like there’s more there to be had,’’ Boone said. “I’m confident we’ll see the results as the season unfolds.”

Sanchez’s defense has been a topic of conversation since he’s been in the majors. He said Wednesday, when pitchers and catchers reported to camp, that he and Swanson have worked on getting his right knee lower so that he can receive pitches in that position.

    e

“It’s a little hard, because this is something new that you have to adjust to,’’ Sanchez said through an interpreter. “I think we’ve have about a week since we started working together, and I can tell you that now I feel much better than Day 1. It’s a learning process and any time you try something new, you need time to make that adjustment.”

Sanchez was bothered by lower-body injuries last season that limited him to 106 games, though he hit a career-high 34 homers.

This offseason, Sanchez said he focused on becoming more flexible, and that will continue with the Yankees’ new training and conditioning staff that was brought in after the roster was ravaged by injuries in 2019.

“I’ve been working together with the new staff for about a week now and we’ve got to keep doing that and see how it pays off as the season is here,’’ Sanchez said.

I read this article this afternoon. I was hoping to read he'd been working with the NY Rangers on blocking shots, which would probably be a big improvement over his supposed work noted within.

As well as his Twitter statement- if he'd of been Altuve, he'd of let the Team tear his clothes off, even his pants, if he'd of hit that HR!!!

Then I saw on Baseball-Reference how Arolaids, walked 24 batters in the 9th inning, tied with one other asshole for the most in all of MLB for 2019.

Can it get any worse for both Sancheeto and A-Rolaids?
Aroldis Chapman and Jose Leclerc issued the most BBs in the 9th inning last season. Look up more stats like this on our site http://ow.ly/2jEe30qfXZl

Hit a home run when it counted for his team in a World Series. An old Johnny Burnett song that goes "Dreaming, I'm always dreaming, till my dreaming comes true. Sanchez need to be put on a dog at Port Authority that will ride him out of New York. And he can pack Stanton in his bag as well.

Like it or not Yankee Fans Cole is going to be fielding many questions about the Astros actions. He may have not been there in '17 but I'm sure e head about some of the tricks of the trade. It also appears to me that the Boston Red Sox cheating accusations have been lost in the sauce.

Odd how the LA/Bozox connection works. It sure isn't any form of atonement by Bahstan...

Price and Kershaw combined in Post Season play-

The Astros owner sounded like a bumbling idiot in that news conference. Literally states that he didn't think the cheating impacted and games but them when pressed further says he didn't say that. It was a joke.

I can't believe Hinch is still covering for the players. Until he tells all and comes clean and names players and specific details, then I will never have an ounce of respect for AJ or the Asstros organization.

I'd like to see every single reporter Grill these folks with the same question until these fkng cheats sweat blood!

Fk 'em all. I honestly believe they continued to cheat with buzzers through the 2019 season and through the postseason.

Hinch is playing the fool and clown. Denial is not a river in Egypt...

Does anyone remember that the Dodgers were one of the first teams a few years ago to say something was going on? People just figured sour grapes at the time. They were suspicious of cameras in the outfield.

This is kinda like some people's attitude during the PEDS scandal/era, who said that PEDs didn't give players an edge in games. My response is/was, if PEDs or stealing signs does give a player or team an edge over others, then why did they do it in the first place?

It was just comical that he says it didn't help but then tells a female reporter who pressed him that he never said that. One of those Twilight Zone moments.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing..."I didn't say what I just said".

the reporter asked essentially the same question I did....("If it didn't have an impact on the game, what are you apologizing for?")

...The owner's interview was really just comically painful to watch...they really just need to come clean on this and do a mea culpa.

From what I saw of that interview was Hinch tap dancing around the issues. Getting tired of hearing about what a great guy Hinch is, and he'll be managing again. Those caught should be out there with Pete Rose.

Hinch and Cora may someday coach again but I think it's gonna be quite awhile.

At this point I can't imagine an owner willing to take on that kind of baggage by hiring them. And who's to say that part of the very reason Hinch and Cora were successful, was because they cheated...again, kinda like the PED cheaters.

It's good to hear the players around the league stating: They have lost all respect for those mofos, rightfully, so!

The penalties and lack of them, do NOT fit the crimes!

I believe Steroids are as rampant now as ever before imo. Masking Agents have always evolved and are a step or 10 ahead and beyond testing ...

    Beltran- thee Kingpin!!

    Fk him too- again!!!

Manfred has no balls by giving all players immunity.

The apologies by Asstros players were weak and lacking.

Has anyone heard any apologies from the Bosox or Cora yet?? I haven't.

Supposedly the Asstros say they only cheated in 017, yet the Bosox bastages cheated in 018.
Personally I believe both continued into 2019.

the dipshit Correa would be better off keeping his ignorant mouth shut. Still full of denials; they continue to make and take matters deeper, further into a point of no redemption~!!

Still, all I'm seeing is a lack of accountability and ownership by Asstros players...

    Re:
    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28708747/carlos-correa-says-astros-won-world-series-fair-square

According to commissioner Rob Manfred's investigation into the Astros, the team used two illegal technological methods to steal signs throughout the 2017 season and for part of the 2018 season, though
the summary noted there was no evidence that the team used a trash can to clue players into pitches in 2018.
