As usual kreidertime thinking he knows everything, and acting like a 2 year old calling people names. He likes a board with 7 people on it regularly who will never call him on his BS 2 year old act. He also wants to buy out 3 more people so we have dead money year after year. What an idiot as usual. Grow up man and accept that not everybody thinks like you, and that's okay. Maybe the board would have more posters if you grew up.

The reason the Skjei trade put today over the top for me was I wanted to go the other way and add for the future at one last trade DL. No way I wanted to make any moves to burn assets to maybe run the inside straight and slip into the playoffs. So I am happy we focused on future for one more year. Next year it is full steam ahead playoffs or bust. And the year after I am hoping we are back to SC or bust.

With the Isles and Canes improving greatly today, our playoff hopes are just about over (and the Igor injury as well), and I am okay with that.

Hopefully things turn out well for Skjei in a new spot, but he just wasn't progressing all that well here. Pairing with Trouba wasn't the best thing but maybe in Carolina out of the NY spotlight he'll thrive more. I'll be pulling for them to knock off the Isles/Flyers/Boston and anyone else from the division. I don't have anything against them.

How the fuck do you know either one of those teams improved. Just because you acquire players doesn't mean you get better.

Again, you being biased and only seeing what you want to see and believe.

Canes added Trocheck AND Skjei AND Vatanen. They improved.
Isles added Greene AND JGP. They improved.
We lost Igor, lost Buch for maybe a few games, lost Skjei. We did not improve.

Now you want to tell me chemistry, and who knows for sure how everyone meshes and plays together, maybe it won't be perfect and they struggle to adjust, okay I will buy that is possible (anything is possible). But on paper and ADDING TALENT wise both of those teams improved, and we did not, and maybe took a step back. Plus we are already 4 and 6 points behind the Canes and Isles.

Don't you want them to lose in round 1 (if they even get in) so we get a higher 1st rounder from them? I do.

Yeah i suppose, but if they play the Isles or Philly along the way i would sacrifice 4-5 draft spots to see them knocked out. Optimally i guess is Carolina missing the playoffs altogether.

Curveball is we don't know which pick we'll be getting from the Canes. They have their own pick, and the Leafs top 10 protected 1st rounder as well. The Canes get to choose which one they keep. Obviously they'll keep the better pick, but if Toronto's pick is top 10 the Canes may have no choice but to give us their pick. Not sure yet. Sure we'll hear more tomorrow on the exact conditions.

    From Brooks:

Leafs pick is top-ten protected, so if that's the case, that pick is deferred to 2021. But there seem to be no conditions attached to Canes-Rangers, so if Carolina has only one pick, I believe it would go to NYR regardless. But don't quote me.

So if that is accurate, if the Leafs pick is top 10, and somehow the Canes miss the playoffs and their pick is top 10 as well, we'll get the Canes top 10 pick since it is their only pick remaining. But we'll see if that's correct tomorrow I'm sure.

Doesn't matter. A second first rounder for salary that will go to TDA to man the PP for the next 5 years is a steal. A lot of the projected first round forwards are small in this draft. They might trade that pick for an NHL ready prospect in the off-season. I wouldn't though. I think the system needs more forwards. I'd like to see them stock pile some forward prospects. Figure if Kakko breaks out by 21 he's going for 8 million. Zibanejad will get 10 million on his next deal. Shesterkin maybe 7 or 8 when they extend him. Some players will have to be replaced.

I agree. To me the Skjei deal made the day. Cleared cap space, got another 1st rounder, and gives the plenty of kids we have that play LD a chance. And that doesn't even touch on Skjei leveling off and not living up to expectations fully. I love this trade by Gorton.

Now we can re-sign TDA and maybe even Strome. Also gives us more room for Lemieux.

Bottom line was Dreger and company had no idea what JD and Gorton were going to do any more than us posters. Great job keeping the team together, resigning CK was expected but have to admit I was a little nervous when Boomer was talking about using him to move Hank this morning. I think Skjei can be a good player if the Canes can convince him to hit but the Rangers have too many cheaper options to evaluate, great salary dump for a st gives them the chance to resign Tony D. Now fate offers the King a chance to ride out and reclaim his throne and help get this team to the playoffs. How is this 30% chance to make the playoffs calculated when the game's outcomes are not known? Sounds like the bunk to me - my prediction 100% playoff bound.. Let's Go Rangers!

Well a quick peek at the standings and Rangers schedule shows 16 of their remaining 21 games against teams currently in playoff position. 9 home games vs 12 road (though they have won 7 in a row on the road at the moment). I think they will need 27 more points to make the playoffs and if you can get 5 or 6 against the Flyers that will be huge. Thats a tall order considering they just lost their best goalie for 3-4 weeks minimum but the way they have been playing recently (especially on the road) its doable. Probably 30% chance....

I'm a little surprised Carolina didn't go after a goalie, being they are right on the playoff fringe. They are going with 2 hurt goalies and two minor league types.

Would have had a much better chance to make the playoffs with a red hot Shesterkin down the stretch. Either way, the hot streak showed the brass that big deals weren't needed for more prospects and picks. Now get Fast of the top freakin line and put Kakko back there.

I didn’t think of this draft reading scouting reports of the top 30 but Gorton said his scouts think it’s a strong draft. We’ll see. Forwards lack size in this draft.

So in other words you're coming to the 30% number by predicting the outcome of the remaining games Grevy? - come on man at least give them 50%, I'm obviously at 100% being a homer. The Rangers have 21 games left and have won 14 of their last 20 (5 games over .500 home and on the road) to be 6 points out of the wild card, 7 points out of 3rd and 30%? I'd put Ottawa and the Debs at 30%, not quite mathematically eliminated but close.

I only said 30% because that's what not-Chuck has been saying repeatedly (imagine that!) over the last 48 hours.
