I voted Pau as the worst.... but doing a bad 1 year vet minimum contract isnt a terribly bad move. The problem is Neil swung and missed on all of Pau, Mario, Tolliver, Bazemore, 2020 Simons. Then we had a couple more injuries than expected.

Outside the 2016 free agents Neil has been a better than average GM. Those contracts were horrific and hurt this franchise for 48 months.

It's not just that Olshey signed CJ, who doesn't fit with Dame, to a 3 year extension. It's the amount of money that was committed to CJ, who is again a bad fit for this team. So the CJ extension is Olshey's worst move and I don't think it's close.

I dont think CJ trade value is worse this summer than if he was on an expiring contract.

So signing CJ isnt a bad move. I think your criticism should be Neil not trading CJ.

Yep! I figure we can only lose 6 games the rest of the way and none of those can be vs Grizzlies.

I don’t think giving CJ an extension was a bad move. My bigger issue is how he’s utilized by Stotts. He has elite catch and shoot percentages but Stotts prefers to let him handle the ball, even if it means freezing everyone else out. It’s also annoying that we saw what CJ could be while Dame was out, but will most likely revert back to the more selfish player now that he’s returned. Part of that is on CJ, but I put more of the blame on Stotts because at the end of the day, he’s enabling it. Imagine CJ in a Klay role, he’d kill it and the offense wouldn’t be so stagnant when he’s off.

    To expand on this

CJ is shooting 47% from outside on catch and shoot. (3.5 attempts a game)

    Pull ups? 30% (4 attempts a game)

Last year he shot 40% catch and shoot, 35% pull-ups.

If Stotts would utilize him like Klay/Redick/etc, he would be a monster and everyone (including me) would stop bitching about him.

I believe this is more of a CJ thing than Stotts. Its not like Stotts is necessarily encouraging him to pull-up more (nor does it appear he's discouraging him).

Stotts let's his veteran players play in the manner they like the most. CJ loves his pull-up game & believes he's the best in the NBA at that....even when the stats show otherwise.

Wouldn't that then make this more of a Stotts thing? He doesn’t (and shouldn’t) need to let players do whatever they want. He’s the boss.

Completely agree. Stotts has his good points, but he's not a championship level coach. He doesn't focus on the details.

Suns will use Baynes to try to draw Hassan out of the paint.
