I watch lots of 1930s movies. My favorites are William Powell movies as PI Nick Charles. Have you seen Charlie Chaplin's Gold Rush circa 1925? Recently watched Ivanhoe. I also watched Tarzan movies Johnny (Weismuller) (the stunt woman for Jane was a substitute teacher at Oswego High School and mother of Olympic gold medalist, Don Schollander) and Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon when I was a kid. The first movie I recall seeing in a movie theater was Land of the Pharaohs. Good grief, I was born in the 40s, some would say the 1640s. Still, young by Marzy standards. If Chris Columbus was my uncle, he was Marzy's grandson.
Awww man, I'm sorry to hear that. So she finally found out about you and Mrs HCP? (I can remove that last crack if it was in poor taste. Oops, all of my posts are in poor taste, I guess I should say if it was in exceptionally poor taste.)
But all of your posts are rather famously in exceptionally poor taste. By the way, I found your revelation of me having a penchant for farm animals to be both really interesting and yet in exceptionally poor taste. Now that the secret is out I suppose I don't have to hide it any more. Dolly will be so relieved.
Invisible Man on Saturday night. Really enjoyed the first half, give it 8/10 ... 2nd half falls apart and goes cliche in too many ways 2/10. Overall about 5/10, which is what I expected after the trailer, but then I saw the good reviews and it might have skewed my viewpoint. Rewatched Dazed and Confused this weekend and that movie has to be in my top 10 of rewatchable flicks. Doesn't matter how many times I've seen, or where I hop in to it, I can always watch to the end. It's not in my top 10 of favorite movies but can always watch it.
Just watched Uncut Gems. A damn good movie. Hard to watch though. Very anxiety inducing. No levity. Just intense drama all through. I can see why people thought Sandler should have been nominated for best actor. One of, if not his best movies.
Anna The story of a Russian top secret agent. Damn she's good. She can kill anyone she wants almost regardless of the security.
Mistakes were made. Watched it with the family awhile back. Good movie. I too laughed quite a bit and think I had something in my eye at the end. It was cool seeing Portland (mostly NE and Downtown). Kid has quite the imagination.
Just say today Love at Large starring Tom Berenger. Lousy movie but set in Portland, Oregon. They even used the Crooked River Ranch and a prominent display of Union Station. It wasn't all bad just mostly bad but I did enjoy the scenes of Portland.
Recently dad and I have been watching the WWII series, Combat, starring Vic Morrow and Rick Jason. We are enjoying it quite a bit.
There was an IMDB question on Facebook “favorite movie filmed in your home state” my response was what I reckon most Oregonians would say - Goonies!
Don't bother wasting your time, that flick is one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. If you want a truly great movie, also filmed in Oregon, about kids coming of age and on an adventure, then go with Stand by Me.
I was about 10 living in Springfield when that movie was shooting. I was going to be an extra in it but when Rob Reiner explained the scene to us (everyone throwing up at the pie eating contest), I decided to pass.
