I always mean to start a thread about the Australian Football League (AFL) every year, but always get caught up in playoffs, and never get around to it. With no NBA currently being played, and the AFL season starting tomorrow; what better time to get interested in one of the few sports still being played? What is Australian Football you ask? This should cover the basics: In perhaps a strange way, I find it shares similarities with basketball. It's the 360 degree nature of the game because of no offside, and it's free flowing nature. In fact Patty Mills was a very good junior football player, and was touted as a high draft pick before he instead decided to focus on basketball. Many AFL players were good junior basketball players before they chose football, with some playing junior basketball for Australia. There have been some changes due to COVID-19. The season has been shortened from 22 games per team to 17, quarters have been shortened from 20 minutes each (plus time added on for stoppages) to 16 minutes plus time on, and the games will be played in front of no crowds. The league will be suspended if a player tests positive for COVID-19, but any sport is better than none. So if you're struggling with the current lack of sports the opening game of the season between traditional rivals Carlton and reigning Premiers (Champions) Richmond is on Thursday 19 March @ 1:25AM PDT. Yes, the night matches aren't on at a great time for you, but the Saturday, and Sunday afternoon games are. There's a Saturday afternoon match on Friday 20th @ 7:45PM PDT, and another @ 10:45PM. There's Sunday afternoon/evening matches on Saturday 21st @ 7:10PM, @ 9:20PM, and Sunday 22nd @ 12:20AM. Matches can be watched here: https://www.watchafl.com.au/ This website has additional details about other legal viewing options: https://www.afana.com/tvinfo "Other" viewing methods have existed in previous seasons. Oi! Last time I tried to talk about AFL you slagged on me pretty hard about being a Collinwood fan, lol. Anyway, I haven't followed them in many years. Are their fans still a bunch of douchebags?
A Filth supporter eh? I remember that conversation. I'm surprised the guards give you Internet access in prison. Even Siri knows what's up with Filth supporters.
Listen here banana bender, our prison internet service is still better than the shit broadband you have in 'Stralia. Is Collingwood the shittiest suburb in Melbourne or something? Collingwood's fans sound like Raider's fans lol.
You've got me there, it really does suck. Not anymore, but it used to be rough. It's all just banter, no-one takes it seriously, we all enjoy hanging shit on each other about our footy clubs. Plus the club I support is Collingwood's most bitter rival.
I used to love watching Australian Rules Football. LOVED IT!! Haven't seen a match broadcast here in many many years. I don't know why not it's a great sport. Thanks for posting that!
LETS FUCKING GO. I wanna talk shit about some coach, some overpaid player who is one dimensional, and tell people to calm down about their damn expectations! LETS GO.
Half an hour to go until the opening bounce of the season, and with an empty stadium it’s going to be weird. There would normally be 80-90,000 people there. I’m very nervous/excited because I support Carlton, a former powerhouse club (most championships in league history) who have been through almost 20 years of self inflicted mediocrity. We’re up against one of our three traditional rivals Richmond, who are the reigning champions, and have been a fantastic side over the last four or five years. We’re going to lose, I just hope we put up a good fight.
Poor start by the Blues, but made it respectable by the end. I don’t know if the players will be able to maintain the required level of intensity all season without the crowds to lift them. It certainly felt very flat to me at times.
There is, but not as bad as you guys yet. No players have COVID-19 yet, so they are playing with crowds locked our. As soon as a player tests positive, they will suspend the league for 30 days.
Yeah I was watching the match now I'm watching the news conference. Tentative date to resume May 21st, but even that seems unlikely
