That was squashed by the incentive bill to allow loan forgiveness for those businesses that are able to retain and continue to pay employees. Did you see the horrendous initial bill put forth by mcconnel and the select few republicans that would allow 500billion to be controlled by trump and Mnuchin as to what corporations that money goes to? That's why I said last week that this bill needs a lot of work and why passing a bad bill is worse.
I'm guessing because they had to wait on the fine tuning of the language and on the actual vote itself.
If it was $1,200/mo until the pandemic is controlled, I could be happy for people. But one time? If this thing goes until July/august people are still going to be screwed. If people are filing for unemployment (with the surge of applications) that could still take months. This is very worrisome and really just a bandaid on a large open wound.
Our state, Iowa, just introduced a small business grant relief program. $5K to $25K. We got our application on day 1, interested to see if we get approved. We meet all the initial qualifications.
From what I read it diminishes from $75K to $99,999K, so still a payment if within that range, but not as much. Thresholds are doubled for couples. My wife is not a citizen, but a permanent resident, so I wonder if she qualifies.
Chances for a planned Senate vote on a historic $2 trillion relief package in response to the coronavirus pandemic appeared to dwindle Wednesday as senators threatened to delay it over a key unemployment insurance proposal. Earlier in the day, four Republican senators — Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott of South Carolina, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Rick Scott of Florida — threatened not to support the chamber’s push to pass the rescue package through fast-track procedures. They argued a plan to add $600 per week to unemployment insurance for up to four months, a core provision of the near-final legislation, could encourage companies to lay off workers and Americans to stay unemployed. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/25/ber...ten-to-hold-up-coronavirus-stimulus-bill.html
I got a brother in law who fakes a back injury, been doing it for a couple years now. Been abusing government assistance. Claiming SS disability. You think his punk ass is going to get a check?
Agreed. I can't actually apply for unemployment, because technically I could still work. I just don't want to expose myself or my clients to anything so we've all decided to stop working for the time being. Since technically I could work, but I chose not to, I'm hosed.
My job? Going to the mailbox to collect my checks except for the ones that are electronically deposited which means I also have to go to the bank and get cash to stuff my pockets with. Life can be tough. Don't tear up, I'll get by somehow.
I think this really shows how much these people care about the American public. They're playing politics while people are really suffering. They couldn't care less about the average American. It's really sad and I wish people would wake up about it. If there was ever a time for these guys to put their political crap aside and get something done, this is it.
