I've been thinking about this lately we're only about 3 months from fire season. Last year there were almost no fires because there were almost no electrical storms. The year before was one the worst on record...lots of electrical storms if Covid is still going strong and we have a bad fire season this summer, what does that mean for the fire fighters? Now, they are mostly young and in good shape. But they also spend fire season with compromised lungs and inflammation in their breathing tissues because of smoke inhalation. Can't be avoided. And it's impossible to maintain any social distancing in fire camps and transportation to fire theaters this might be a big issue if we have a bad fire season, but maybe I'm missing something
You could be right, but I'm on worry overload. Don't need to borrow any possible ones from a few months down the road. Let's just hope that the virus goes away for the summer and that we have another quiet fire season.
They are probably safer than most because that level of heat will keep the virus away and they have face shields and respirators already..coal miners won't fair so well
Saw a Forest Service add yesterday looking for seasonal workers. No mention of C-19 in the add or their hiring website.
I'm a bit less worried about that for summer (though it's always a worry) because COVID-19 is likely to be in a downcycle during that time. I'm more worried about fall, like late September or October, which can be a really bad time for wildfires in states like California and Oregon and the coronavirus might be on the upswing again.
https://bigislandnow.com/2020/04/23/fire-crews-battle-brush-fire-in-north-kohala/ already starting here on the big island, though very small. no electrical storm but blown transformer. edit burned more than another 40 acres since last report. better picture too. https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2020/...orking-contain-brush-fire-spreading-kawaihae/
Over 85% of all wildfires are set by humans, over 60% intentionally. The massive increase over the last decade is attributable mostly to individual firebugs who now stand to profit from the "wildfire hysteria campaign" Dems have been waging for the last 20 years.
What about coronavirus+tornado though? What about covidquakes? What if you trip on a skateboard with coronavirus? What if the there’s a tsunami...of coronavirus? We had better all just kill ourselves.
I am at OHSU right now. Fortunately, its not Covid-related. Unfortunately I am here for a couple of nights. But wow, these doctors and nurses and everyone are just incredible. Professional, brave, kind, committed. Doing their job in the face of it all. I am confident that that is what the firefighters will do.
We had a couple of tornadoes touch down within a few miles of us today. I literally called them Coronadoes.
