A deal that would make more sense would be a CJ/pick for Simmons swap. May need to throw in a young guy like Anfernee, but I could see something like that IF Olshey wasn’t the GM.
numbers don’t. You’d essentially be sacrificing CJ for maybe a slight upgrade at a position that doesn’t need an upgrade. And that’s assuming Embiid comes over and transfers his game, because the chemistry Dame has with Nurk on the court is something he hasn’t had with any other center he’s played with.
That doesn't make sense to me either, since Simmons would have to take the ball out of Dame's hands to be most effective, which is worse. When Dame has the ball in his hands, Simmons makes it tougher on him than C.J. would. Basically, in order for our 2nd best player to be most effective, the team would have to be worse. I don't want two non-shooters out on the floor with Dame, and I'm not a fan of turning Nurkic into a unicorn and having him chuck 3s in order to try to fix that. That'd be making Nurkic less effective in order to offset Simmons being a poor off-ball fit next to Dame. I just don't see a properly optimized lineup around Dame with Simmons on the roster.
Trading C.J. only makes sense for a notable upgrade at the 2, 3, or 4. But only if that upgrade would also be a good fit next to Dame. I can't think of an available player that fits that mold, therefore, it makes sense to bring C.J. back next season.
I guess you don't think "VORP" means anything, because Embiid's is 35% higher than Nurk's. And Embiid has never played with a PG like Dame who complements his game so perfectly. Anyway, it's moot, because it's not going to happen.
Embiid has a whackadoo aspect to him that i don't feel is good at all for the chemistry of this team. He's a "ME" guy IMO.
People said the same thing (or worse) about Whiteside. And I don't think any player who is defensively elite can be fairly called "me-first".
I think Michael Jordan was both elite defensively and extremely "me first." Of course, I'd still want him on my team and the same goes for Embiid.
Exactly. I'm okay with that as I think the team would be better with more defense at the SG position. In consolidation trades, it's rarely 1+1=2. More like 1+1=1.5, but that's okay as the discussion isn't CJ+Nurk<Embiid, it's CJ+Nurk<Embidd+TrentJr (or some other SG).
I’ll take CJ and Nurk, and that’s coming from trents biggest fan and someone who doesn’t care about CJ. That trade just isn’t close to equal value. You can find a trade for CJ without dumping Nurk in the process. Nurk and Dame should be the pillars of the franchise moving forward.
I completely respect this point of view and Nurk would be the part that would be the most painful. Time will tell which of Nurk or Embiid will be the healthier and more productive over the next five years.
I wanted to do some similar comparisons from last years Sixers team since you used last season and i see the one in the pic below. I even used this season where Redick was worse than 18/19. Can we say CJ is not a big upgrade over Redick in terms of value? We shouldn't underestimate the bad fit of Embiid/Simmons. Embiid is an elite player, an All Star lock, an All Nba lock and an all nba defensive team lock.
...but not to Philly. I don't get why people don't get that if you're going after an elite player you have to offer a lot.
