<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Rocky Mountain News - Atkins, a point guard with eight years of NBA experience, said Thursday night he will be in Denver today to sign a multiyear contract with the Nuggets. "Pretty much a done deal," Atkins said. "I'm very excited. Very happy. For one, just to be off the (free- agent) market. Secondly, to be going to play for a very talented team that has a chance to win it all." Atkins, who will turn 33 on Aug. 14, enjoyed one of his best statistical seasons in 2006-07, averaging 13.2 points and 4.6 assists in 75 games with the Memphis Grizzlies . For his career, he has averaged 10.8 points and 3.7 assists and is a 37 percent three-point shooter. His shooting ability was a strong selling point for a Nuggets team that was 28th in the league from behind the arc last season. "I just want to ease the double- and triple-teaming of Carmelo (Anthony) and Allen (Iverson)," Atkins said. "I think we can make some things happen." Atkins' pending arrival means point guard Steve Blake is unlikely to return to the Nuggets</div>

This is stupid, in my opinion. Denver can bring in all the offense they want, but they will never win anything. They need to bring in defensive role players to get the job done, bringing in Chucky Atkins will not help them one bit.

The Nuggets are always looking for 3-point shooters year after year and the guys they get are always mediocre...

Because they get the same production from Atkins (with better three-point shooting, which they sorely lack) for approximately $3 million a year (his rumored contract) that they would have got with Blake resigning at $6 million per year.I like this move a lot for them. Will it put them over the top? Obviously not, but it's a good signing to fill a need at the point guard slot.

I don't know about a good signing. I have many bad memories of Chucky...not good memories.. :no1:He improved slightly with Memphis but he still chucks up way too many 3 pointers which he doesn't always make. (Much like Rafer Alston) His defense is not good and he just has bad shot selection. He does a good job drawing contact in the paint and his passing ability is decent, but this is definitely not a step up from Blake.

Watching the Nuggets, Karl had a crush on Blake or something, and if he is going to play somebody 35-40 minutes a night at the point (other than AI), they would be better off with Atkins than Blake. I think Brevin Knight would have been better for them, and he had interest in signing there, but I still think this is a good move for them. It's a lateral one in terms of production, but a positive one in terms of salary (even if it is slightly better).

This is an alright signing. The Nuggets do need another shooter on their team, and Atkins can fill that void, but getting it at the PG spot wasn't a great move really. They should have went after a playmaker at PG who can come in and set up all their big scorers. Atkins is a decent PG, but not a playmaker. He's a shoot first player and they really already have enough of those. Not a bad move though.

AI is a good passer he can play PG cut this crap alreay with little guys trying to fill in it hold everyone back I think. I really hope he comes of the bench.

I think that Karl looks at it this way:If he starts AI at the point guard spot, then JR Smith will have to start at SG with Carmelo Anthony at SF. Then who is the offensive threat coming off the bench? There really isn't one... if you start Atkins at PG, then you'd have Smith coming off the bench who can provide a spark with energy and offense.

But also just let AI play PG wtf is wrong with Karl, and I like him as a coach.Ow Yeah, and for got sakes run some actual plays next season they can really do a lot with AI/Melo/Nene.
