So Brees is allowed to have an opinion, but the people who disagree with him aren't? We could rephrase this as "Why are you throwing a shit flip because Brees' critics dare to have an opinion other than the one you want them to have?" Right-wingers are really big on "freedom of speech," right up until their right-wing icons get blow-back and then suddenly it's "How dare people have opinions?" Freedom of speech does not mean the right to say whatever you want free from counter-arguments and criticism.
Nobody here said that. I certainly didn't. Stop projecting. I don't want them to have any other opinion than the one they want. But I DO want differentiating opinions to be respected instead of shamed. Like Drew Brees' opinion. Doesn't seem like you respect his opinion very much. Tell that to the Left. They seem to be the ones throwing a shit flip over Brees' opinions. Stop going in circles with this. This started because Brees voiced an opinion that isn't shared by others. You can disagree with his opinion, but don't shame him for it, and don't deflect away from it by blaming "right wingers" for some perceived disrespect when nothing of a kind was voiced here. This whole "call anyone you disagree with racist, nazi, and privileged" bullshit is getting real old, and this lumping "right-wingers" into it is also just as bad. Personally speaking, I don't listen to ANYONE who is a millionaire about anything, and neither should anyone else. They don't live in our everyday world; they live in gated communities being fawned over by the media and millions of fans. Stop giving them more attention than they deserve, regardless of what side they're on.
"Respecting" or "shaming" an opinion is part of the other person's opinion. You can't say "I want people to have their own opinion, as long as that opinion is respecting Brees' opinion." If people don't respect it, that's their opinion. If they consider Brees' opinion shameful...that's their opinion. Just like you're "throwing a shit flip" over their opinions. And that's cool. You get to have your opinion, even if it's a "shit flip throwing" (weird expression, by the way) opinion. Brees gets to have his opinion. And Brees' detractors get to have their opinion. Even if that opinion is that Brees' opinion is shameful. Were you pitching a fit like this when conservatives were blasting and "shaming" Colin Kaepernick? I sure don't remember you doing so. I'll bet you were thumbs-upping all that. Let me guess--Trump "throwing a shit flip" over Kaepernick disgusted you, right? Sure. The "left" is fine with you or Brees having your opinions. The "left" is just going to have their own opinions about yours and Brees' opinions. Everyone gets to have their opinions.
LOL. Okay. So you're pissy that someone who is Right of Lenin is disagreeing with the Left for shaming people. Gotcha. Thank you for clarifying. I don't run around in circles on this topic; I call it like it is. But you do you. Have fun.
I'm not pissy at all. As I said, I'm cool with you having your opinion. I'm just pointing out that you're being hypocritical. Hypocritical opinions aren't uncommon, though.
I'm sorry, but calling people racist because they disagree with you or vote Right isn't an opinion worth supporting. It's juvenile and wrong. Shaming Brees for his opinion is no different. Calling that out is no hypocrisy. It SHOULD be called out, just like genuine racists should be called out in abundance. I've done both, so it CAN be done, and it REALLY isn't hard to do. And may I just take a moment to whine for my own sake.....I can't win no matter where I go, or what I do. If I go to a Right-based firearms forum, half of the members there are either closeted racists, sucking Trump off blindly with no shame, whining about Left-wing sports icons, or forwarding conspiracy theories about the stupidest shit to fit their rhetoric. Yet, if I go to a Left-based sports forum, it's full of people screaming in threads, making shit up to validate their feelings (which is what they use first, instead of reason and logic), accusing people of things they didn't say because of assumptions, and eventually I'll be called a racist, or accused of being a Klansman because of my supposed privilege or because I vote on a Conservative platform. If I don't join in protests, people on the Left will call me a racist because they assume I don't agree with their viewpoints. If I join in the protests, people on the Right will call me an ANTIFA terrorist or lump me in with some other Left-wing douchebag. I can't win. Which is why I never try. I miss how united this country was after 9/11. Hell, we were already starting to unite better during COVID-19. Now we're just back to being tribal. I hate this shit, all sides of it. Sometimes I think the Joker was right. /rant off.
If you go further left than the furthest left, or further right than the furthest right, you can just get everyone to hate you!
Very little of the criticism of Brees was calling him a racist. Most of it was calling him ignorant. There's a massive difference. Calling out opinions you disagree with is a totally reasonable. Calling out opinions you disagree with while at the same time arguing that other people shouldn't be calling out someone's (Brees') opinion is hypocritical. As for your rant, if you over-generalize, of course it feels like you're always being victimized. I almost never see anyone on this forum being called a racist. I certainly didn't call you a racist for agreeing with Brees (nor did I or anyone else call ABM a racist for starting this thread to support Brees).
I think a good thing to remember, not for you specifically, but generically, with racism is that too many people think of racism as actively shouting the N word, wearing a robe, beating, hunting down, etc. black people. Basically, ACTIVE racism. Then there is the covert or passive racism. Is someone on here burning crosses? No. Is someone questioning what a black man is doing jogging in a neighborhood that isn't his own? Guess what. Racism. Did you call him a slur? No. Did you decide where he can and cant run based on the color of his skin? Yep. It feels like a Jeff Foxworthy sketch. If you ...you might be a racist.
I do think "racist" tends to be a harsh term for people who don't actively have any negative feelings for people of color and wouldn't consciously discriminate against others. People who just lack the awareness of racial dynamics and how secondary effects of policies or enforcement effect other people I usually refer to as something like having problematic racial attitudes. I've used that term before on this forum and it's not, for me, a polite way to call someone a racist but rather a differentiation between people who actively view minorities differently and those who are just oblivious to the very different experience of being white versus non-white in this society.
Yes, the FAR Right are assholes. Tell me something I don't know. I've argued with way more of those cocksuckers than I have anyone on the Left.
very true. extreme either way is crazy! One blows up military recruiting centers and the other abortion clinics!
I'm no more offended by his statement than I am will Kap kneeling. I served my country so they would be allowed to do BOTH!
I don’t care if you’re left, right, up and down or side to side. If your logic is warped it’s up for dissertation
