That sucks. Pro sports aren't immune to this pandemic either.

Ouch. My neighbor works for the Blazers’ marketing department. Hope they’re okay.

Just the beginning. In 6 months the real pain will start.

The true economic impact of the pandemic will not be realized until months from now. Hope the people who were laid off can land somewhere.

Also, what does this say about Jody's willingness to spend? Are other teams doing this?

I don't really see how this could reflect on the willingness to pay to win. If arena events aren't happening till 2021, what would the whole staff be doing till then? We did up our spending after last season - and have the league's highest payroll so it doesn't appear she came in looking to slash and burn.

Aren't most arena staff contracted employees anyway? They are usually off work at this of year, no? From the tweet, I read that as full time people getting pink slips.

Right - but these people sell tickets to those events, schedule those events, do facility management, etc.

I'm a huge Blazer fan but reality is it's a non essential business in face of the virus...if this is needed to keep it afloat, it is needed...my son's workplace laid off 70 plus employees and kept only 6 to get through this time....they're still in business and my son was one of the six that kept his job all along...daughter in law not so lucky...she makes films and travels all over the country to make them and that's shut down for who knows how long...smart franchises will do what it takes to stay afloat..to any employees who are laid off....I really hope it is only temporary

I'm not a Trail Blazer employee. I'm contracted first preseason game of the year til the last. I get a day rate. So I got my last check May 1st....... I don't know any details, but I'm under the impression this was full time employees. Still waiting on that unemployment by the way!!!!
