It's 1995. Joe is watching his favorite team, the Charlotte Hornets. Alonzo Mourning blocks a shot, Muggsy Bogues runs down the rebound, zips up the court and passes off to Larry Johnson, who dunks it. The crowd goes wild, including Joe, who chokes on his pretzel and falls into a coma. There he has remained until today, when he wakes up. Turns out his sole concern is that he learn how his team is doing. But what is his team? Remember, the Hornets moved to New Orleans and are now the Pelicans. But then the Charlotte Bobcats started up, and are now the Hornets. Which team should Joe care about?
The Hornets if it’s his home town. I can’t imagine many people in Seattle rooting for the Thunder if they were to get a team back. History is important but, for me, it doesn’t hold more importance than rooting for the team that you call home. Plus, the fact that they’re called the Hornets and have the same color scheme, etc. helps.
Not to mention that the man who moved the Hornets out of Charlotte is no longer even part of the NBA, and the man who owns the current Hornets is a local, league, and worldwide icon.
Well...........should they root for the Utah Jazz also?? Because prior to moving to Utah in 1979 they were the New Orleans Jazz......just sayin’......
Does it make a difference if I specify that Joe isn't from Charlotte, he just fell in love with the Bogues-Mourning-Johnson Hornets? (By analogy: I'm from England and I fell in love with the Drexler-Porter-Kersey-Williams-Duck Blazers.)
If he only liked the old Hornets due to a specific group of people and then fell into a coma, preventing him from turning that love of three players into a more continuous love for the team overall, then he really has no team right now and should just watch basketball generally until some new player or group of players catches his fancy.
His team no longer exists, but he should root for the Hornets. The Pelicans abandoned the Hornet name and Charlotte immediately welcomed it back.
Why do Hornets suddenly appear every time you drink beer just like bees they long to be fatal to you barfo
