Open your eyes. I was born in Portland. What's happening there right now is nothing short of pathetic.
You were born in Portland, but you live thousands of miles away. Meanwhile, in your current state, 20,000 people got together for a NASCAR race today during a uncontrolled pandemic. I would call that nothing short of pathetic, but I wasn't born in Tennessee. barfo
Cmon now. Let’s not downplay what a complete shit show downtown Portland is. It is embarrassing, sad, and a total disgrace. While I am a big supporter of PROTESTS, and for all I care they can protest forever, the riots and rioters absolutely must be stopped. They are destroying the city. It’s disgusting. The mayor is useless. Might as well not have one. So while i hope Trump and his dipshits all rot in hell and take their followers with them, this is one time where we need some backbone in our leadership and they have to figure out a way to make this stop.
I spend about 3 days a week in downtown Portland hanging out with my elderly dad who lives in the pearl district. We spend our time doing puzzles, playing dominoes and walking all over the city, literally everywhere in a 5 mile radius. When I am not with him my elderly father takes walks on his own. Portland is a super chill city, there are lots of homeless hanging around but even they are chill. Anyone who is worried about Portland has been brainwashed by national media fear mongering them about antifia devils.
Portland cop slams 'hypocritical' Black Lives Matter protesters for their 'violent crowds full of white people' with 'fewer minorities' than the officers they are fighting Portland Police Officer Jakhary Jackson, who is black, called out white protesters as hypocritical for driving violence at Black Lives Matter protests Jackson made his comments about the violent protesters while speaking in an an audio interview released by the department on YouTube Jackson said it 'says something,' when more minorities are among the police ranks than within the crowds of people protesting While praising some of the demonstrators he has met, Jackson also said that many 'have no idea what racism is all about' Jackson is a member of a rapid response team responding to demonstrations almost daily since the police-related slaying of George Floyd in Minneapolis https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ritical-not-having-minorities-department.html
This is certainly a problem that emerges with every cause--well-meaning (and not-so-well-meaning) people who either get involved or even hijack parts of it while not having any real idea of what it entails and what's needed. It's one reason (wise or not) that Malcolm X didn't want white allies. Whether they meant well or not, he didn't want to be tethered to a group of people who didn't understand the struggle, had a high chance of misunderstanding it and making him and the cause look bad.
Why people riot is beyond me. I'm going to presume that rioters are undergoing some sort of insanity.
When I was in Vietnam there was a time when I rode shotgun, with rifle loaded and ready, for our mail truck driver. The son-of-a-bitch would look for guys on diesel motor bikes and bicycles and bump them off the road and into a ditch. It made me so angry that I could scream but I was brand new to the country and had no idea what the response of this madman might be. Now, over 50 years later I still kick myself in the butt for not at least reporting him. It was odd though how the good ol' boy club could include officers who might choose to look the other way so I could have gotten myself into some real difficulty. As a result, I took the easy way out and pretended it never happened. Thanks for dredging up that unpleasant memory.
