To be fair, because of quarantine and unemployment and summer, I generally have no clue what day it is. And then all of a sudden, holy shit, were 2/3rds of the way through july! Seems like early june.

The problem is, you have to do an enforced lockdown to be effective. Police asking persons where they are going, random checkpoints, etc.

Once they opened up, "locking down" like the first time around isn't as feasible. They have to do a complete lockdown, and it has to be national. The list of essential businesses would have to be decreased greatly. Places like Costco and Target wouldn't be opened. You shouldn't be able to leave your zip code.

But how can we do that while de-funding the police at the same time?

Totally agree. Lock shit down or might as well just open it all back up. Lock down as in - you ain’t leaving home unlesss it’s for the hospital. If we do that for even a month this thing almost goes away. But nope. People gotta get to Walmart and target and play little league. People worried about the economy, stupid, this could have been behind us but instead we are dealing with it well into next year.

Touched up my hair for fifth or sixth time today, lost count. My hairdresser always groaned over my do it yourself jobs. Won't try to trim, just have to be straggly.

Not so much boredom, lots to do, as monotony. Lucia's rat was the most excitement in a month.

I want to have a dinner party. A dessert party. Go to an A's game. Browse a bookstore.

No doubt about it, got the Corona virus blues.

I basically work 2 days a week now. And half the time, if it's not those 2 days, I am at a complete and utter loss for what day of the week it is.

    Or what month it is.

I cannot wait for this summer to be a long distant memory.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I really hope no one ever again says "But the economy!" or "Don't you understand that people need to work?" as reasons to keep businesses open. If businesses had remained closed and people had abided by stay-at-home orders, the economy could have been opened up safely, getting more people back to work sooner. Now, because a lot of our society are short-sighted malcontents, the economy is going to be damaged much more profoundly as things need to shut down again (and probably again and again, as politicians keep trying to cave to the malcontents). All the "But the economy!" people actually hurt the economy.

None of us wanted businesses closed or people to be out of work--some of us wanted fewer people to die and for the crucial economic disruption to be minimized by doing this right. Others just wanted to pretend nothing was going on and have now hurt workers who can't work from home more than necessary.

What's odd/sad is that the feds actually had it right. The extra unemployment, the different SBA programs to help businesses, all were designed to end in July. If we would have just stayed closed and helped each other out we would be over this. There was competent plan in place.

Nobody eats for a month. Solid plan. Hard to worry about a virus when your starving to death. We can all get comfy for a month and then when it’s over, if were not dead, we can all take our malnourished asses to live outside because we’ve been evicted or foreclosed on because we couldn’t work to pay our bills.

This could go in either the "What's happening in Portland", this thread or the BLM thread.

    I'll leave it here.
