You know you are starved for hoops when you watch scrimmage games in the bubble... Anyway, I have to say, listening to Jordan Kent call the games has been surprisingly enjoyable. Kevin Calabro never felt like a good fit to me, but two games in and Kent sounds like he belongs, and his camaraderie with Lamar Hurd is noticeable. Hope he stays long term.
I like him because he has no problem deferring to Hurd. Calabro had a tendency to dominate broadcasts, and I don’t think it was even on purpose. These two are more balanced.
Someday a team is going to splash out and get several announcer teams and give you the option to pick. The Old White Guys for the geezer listeners who miss the Schonz and Chick Hearn or the Hip Young Things who grew up idolizing Stuart Scott for the Kidz.
Well, I'll take Chickie every day. And also Mike and Mike. And Wheels. Hmmm, what does that say about me? But I really do like Jordan and Lamar.
I doubt that Kent has the chops right now to call one of those stupendous plays the way Calabro could, but I like him so far and he’s going to grow into the role.
I like Kent. He comes off a bit nervous still, but it will grow on him. He and Hurd are good together
This is a great opportunity for Jordan. I look forward to him honing his skills with the Blazers. I like him, and wish him all the best to get this as a full time gig.
Jordan has certainly paid his dues and earned his opportunity. Ive always liked him and I think he puts great preparation in on his craft.
If MB says so no, in which I’m almost certain the Blazers will be begging him to come back with a hefty raise. Then fuck it give it to Jordan
I enjoy him way more than I ever did Calabro. Barrett would still be choice #1 by a mile for me. But with Kent, I would at least watch some of the games.
I remember when MB was new, I wasn't all that impressed but he sure proved me wrong as he went along. I ended up really liking his persona and ability to handle Rice. Like him too.
Kent's style meshes well with Hurd, and the no-crowd games. You can tell all those years of low-frills highlight setups have had their impact. I appreciate the light touch, and it almost feeling like there are two color commentators.
It was a good broadcast all around I thought. I like the other guy too, UCLA alum, Michael something. No star power but good guys. Lamar always gives respect to other teams and players too.
