Always wanted to take the Starlight Amtrak as well as the one from Seattle to Chicago. Tried planning a trip to Las Vegas, Birmingham, Atlanta via Amtrak but medical problems got in the way.
I haven't ridden the train since I was five years old. I just long for the experience. On the other hand, I've flown plenty of times so where's the thrill. I use to get so thrilled when flying that I would actually think we were taking off when we were just taxiing. It got to the point where I'd jump on the plane while really tired and go to sleep before the takeoff. I only flew first class once and that was when I was bumped from Military standby, which was lower than tourist class, to first class because a bunch of French school children were touring the U.S. and got on before me. I was in Uniform during the war and the stewardesses were delighted to see me bumped to first class. I was pretty happy with it, also. I got drinks, steak, baked potato, delicious side dishes, fruit cheese and expensive wine all for free. Now, that's the way to treat G.I.s. Other than that no one ever did a fucking thing for me in uniform during the war even when returning from combat in uniform. One guy at OLive called me a baby killer sbout 25 years ago even though he had no idea what I did over there.
Those are two great cities. If you ever do visit Chicago, you absolutely must visit the museum of natural history and if you're ever in Seattle you must have the grilled Chinook salmon at Ray's Boat House, eat at Elliot's by the Pier, eat dinner in the Space Needle at night in a window seat and attend an event at the Seattle Opera Center. Seattle also has a world class hospital. Chicago has a world class university at the University of Chicago which I have yet to see. My wife and I ate a perfect Korean dinner in Chicago. Wow, were we lucky to find that.
Just tested positive for COVID-19. I'm only dealing with a little cough, a temp of 99, a few sneezes here and there. Nonetheless, my wife thought I should go in to be tested. Glad I did. That said, the entire trip, we practiced safe distancing, masks all the time, the whole nine yards. However, last week, we did have breakfast with one of my wife's close friends. She's an ER nurse. The masks came off while we ate. Etc., etc. The nurse even commented that most of the hospital staff HATES the masks, and take them off whenever possible. Strange indeed. Anyhoo, considering some of the things I've said in here regarding the covid, you "may" have thought I was taking a devil-may-care, cavalier approach to the virus. Trust me, we haven't. And, again, we took every cautionary approach on this trip. I was starting to feel a little down, lack of energy, late last week, so that's probably about the time I contracted it. May the quarantine begin.
Well, I'm sorry to hear that ABM. Hope you don't have any lasting effects (like death, for instance). barfo
I'm sorry to hear this but I told you it was a terrible time to go on a vacation ....your answer to my post was....I'm not missing my sister's birthday....hopefully you haven't spread it to others...hopefully you'll contact those you've spent time with and hopefully you'll get through it ok. Two of my granddaughters in California tested positive awhile back and survived it ...they had gone back to work on the advice of Trump....their dad is a Trump fan....man did they regret listening to that liar......now I hope they don't have permanent damage from the infection like shortness of breath, heart disease, etc....Fauci said we don't know the long term effects yet.People need to stay the fuck home until a proven vaccine is available
Understood. Really, though, other then the time with my family (we left them on August 2nd), we've pretty much been keeping to ourselves. Again, I believe I contracted it late last week. Could've happened right here at home, I suppose.
Covid can linger in the air for up to 8 minutes like cigarette smoke....again...I hope you get through this. America needs to wake up and take this shit seriously
I hate to admit it but the cabin fever finally kicked my ass, so my cousin and I are on a short trip to Joseph, Wallowa, Baker City, etc. Establishments are doing a good job overall of taking things serious, but some of the locals are very vocal about face masks. Fuck ‘em. Things are slow here, so everywhere we go we are effusively welcomed and treated exceedingly well. I’m glad I came but I’ll be white knuckling it for the next couple of weeks. It will be what it’s gonna be I guess.....
Isn't that exactly what you wanted to have happen? You were just talking about herd immunity. Well now you can make your herd immune. j/k Please stay home and safe. And I have no idea if your state does contact tracing but if it does please answer accurately.
I hope you recover unscathed. I don't wish this on anyone regardless of their stance about anything... unlike some.
I'm under quarantine. The nurse from Vanderbilt said that the test is 70% accurate. Probably false-negatives are the culprits.
