I expressed my choice will probably be Jo Jorgensen. Though she has some issues.

Great....vote for her....I think it's a wasted vote but that's why I'm voting for Biden ...as a country I don't think we have any more time to waste on divisive posturing from our leadership which is what we have now.

you should start a Jo Jorgensen thread and prop up your cause....I promise you I won't call you a Tribalist for putting support for her campaign here. Please do the same with my choice as well. Do you believe in the right for the American Communist party candidate to be included in the election? We have this party as well as a Constitutional Party, Green Party, Libertarian Party, independent party, etc.....in a true democracy all should be included in the debates and none have the money to compete or the lobbyists to give them a platform.....do you consider this fair?

It's what we had with Obama, it's what we had with Bush, it's definitely what we had with Clinton, and it's what we had with the other bush too. The divisive posturing isn't going to get better when/if Biden gets in. That ship has sailed and is far at sea, it isn't returning to port anytime soon. If your ideal is unity as a country, which is a good ideal, do not expect that to show up again for decades. Don't expect Biden to make it better either cause he won't. The divisive posturing has been on a one way trip for a very long time and yeah I think Trumps behaviors have spurned it dramatically, but I don't believe Biden will do anything at all to reverse course on that.

Edit: I am not saying that any of those presidents were the sole cause of the division, but it existed and was perpetuated and has been for a long time.

I think recently seeing the worldwide marching against racial profiling we will see things getting better....I think Obama serving two terms and implementing national healthcare is progress....a black president....more female legislators than ever in history....many female presidential candidates and a gay candidate...an asian candidate....if you don't see change you aren't looking....young people are where change occurs....and they don't do that by complaining about 1962 political corruption....they get it by talking about 2020 political corruption. We move forward by moving forward..we are dealing with global chaos and life threatening conditions today....it's not time to use shallow comparisons of our white privileged history when we're in the middle of addressing white privilege abuse

Let me present another scenario. If you had to vote and the only choices were Biden and trump, which one would you choose? Let's say that there is a penalty of $1000 on your taxes if you don;t vote so that people will vote.

I think you are just plain wrong about that. Obviously it will get better, because Biden is not going to stoke division in the way that Trump has.

Yeah, the Democrats haven't at all helped stoke division over the last decade. It was entirely Trump. People were so close 4 years ago.

Can we assume that you have hard feelings towards the democratic party? Your posts definitely give off that vibe which is certainly your prerogative.

I have bad feelings about both political parties. My posts should give off that vibe.

That's a lot of strawmen there in just 3 sentences.

You seem wedded to the idea that Biden will be exactly as bad as Trump. That seems implausible, as they are different people.

Your argument is if Biden's different than things will get better just because he's different? Seems to downplay the role, big-tech, media, and other politicians play in divisiveness. The country was divided when Biden was VP, wasn't it? All the statistics I've found show the polarization really started around the Clinton era with his impeachment, and then hanging chads. Though there was some division before that that's when it got worse.

Hmm, it seems you lean more right than left which is what I get from many of your posts.

Just curious, how old are you? I assume you are similar age to my 2 youngest kids. I will be 66 in a few days and I have not seen what you claim to be rather obvious. Has there always been some division? sure, that's normal when you have two different candidates or parties, but I have never seen the division that we are seeing now, nor have I ever seen a president push the division to the extreme like trump has. Wonder why that is?

Maybe what the "right" was years and years ago.
I'm for a smaller federal government. More state rights. More authority for local governments that are actually democratic the federal government is not democratic, it's representative. Anti-globalism. More personal rights. Less war-mongering. Fairtrade and fair markets, none of this government making laws and tax loopholes for their friends. I want police reform, with well-trained officers. I want teacher union reform, better-trained teachers, more online learning fewer classrooms (Guess COVID is giving us that).
Each of the parties have 'parts' of those things, but neither has all of that and worse to me is that both promise nice things and rarely follow through on it. What we typically get is a crony capitalism that gives us the worst aspects of socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor, and war-mongering, sorry I want the US out of the middle-east that's a big deal to me. We are not the worlds police force, Obama had 8 years and didn't make the situation over there any better either.

Since Trump Russia has expanded it's nukes and warheads empowered Assad and gained ports in Syria, Cuba and Venezuela, Iran has started it's nukes back up and is free to do business with North Korea...North Korea has expanded it's nukes and threatened to blow up Guam, China has expanded it's military, seized Hong Kong and built a bigger navy to take over the Spratley islands...we've thrown away diplomatic relations with Canada, Mexico and Europe, the Kurds ...pulled out of the Paris Climate accord...shut down our pandemic office in China...stopped funding WHO and doctors withouit borders....Don't complain to me that Obama did nothing.....look what's happening under Trump....and we're now the disease pool of the planet just so 600 billionaires could make a trillion bucks in 4 months and scoop up defaulted properties in order to make the stock market look strong....give me a break.....Obama said when he took office that real change was going to take 30 years......Trump set that timetable back 60 more years

I see it as it's been growing almost exponentially for two-ish decades. There was always some division. The very partisan stupid impeachment of Clinton (who I wasn't a fan of, but that was kinda dumb, though he shouldn't have lied I guess), then the GWB Election really fractured things. It kind of came right as the time of the 'internet age' so social media by 2010 was super prevalent. The means for propagandizing and polarizing people got extremely better over the last 20 years. Before Trump was even elected though, in general democrats hated Bush especially his second term. Republicans hated Obama, Trump... well that's obvious lol. I think it was heading for this, no matter who was elected though. There was so much vitriol for both Trump and Hillary we were in for a crazy time. I just think the tools for divide and conquer are so advanced now, the technology, and AI algorithms giving us positive reinforcement, changing search algorithms to show us what we want to see, has created an America that is going to be hyper-polarized. So I personally believe the reason why that is, is because the tools for divide and conquer of the US have been refined through fire so to speak.
