Stotts don't have the balls to not start Melo. Even though Melo prime is gone past him.

Don't buy it...he started Noah Vonleh and played him about 12 minutes a game for two seasons....Stotts is not afraid to shake up his lineups but he's already said Melo will start and we had success with Melo starting...we won't see more than a 9-10 man rotation in this upcoming series....you guys forget how great Melo has played for team USA and he's not injured and well rested...Stotts said Melo won't play extended minutes more than likely but he'll start and he should start....we had to play 3rd stringers this regular season....now we don't. I just think people that don't like Melo aren't going to suddenly like Melo around here.....personally I love the guy after what I've seen from him so far. I'm excited to see him with Nurk and Zach behind him...he's going to have a lot more offensive freedom with this lineup and that includes passing....Nurk can catch and finish a Melo pass under the rim....Hassan didn't have Nurk's hands in the post for catching and finishing as much. We're going into battle I want Melo on the court as long as his legs are fresh

Well I actually like Melo but also know he past his prime. You can see it when he logged to many minutes on offense and he slow of foot on defense. Again some people thinking about what use good do and not what he can do now. I don't mind him starting as long as Stotts start Zach and Nurk behind him for rim protection. I Know Melo likes to back off his man due try prevent the drive but playing the 3 he just can't do that especially if the guy can shoot the 3. Again know one hates Melo because he has gave this team a boost when we needed one but majority of us know what he can do now due to his age he also as limation what he can due now then what he use to do in his prime.

Too much focus on what Melo can’t do at the three and very little on what he can.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Stotts emphasizes protecting the three point line when it comes to Melo specifically. If a wing wants to blow by him and attack the rim, I don’t think it’d be something Stotts would/should be against with two of Nurk/Whiteside/Collins behind him at all times. “Be my guest”

As for the advantages of Melo playing the three? How about his size? How many threes can guard him if/when he decides to post up? He's also gonna go from being a below average rebounder at the four, to an above average one at the three. Blazers should win the rebounding battle most games. Also, pick and rolls/pops typically involve either a four or a five. With Melo now guarding threes, were probably not gonna see him having to defend it as much. I have more faith in him being able to protect the three point line than I do him defending a pick and roll.

Speaking of too much, there are 40 straight posts about Carmelo in a Little thread, while the Melo thread floats only about 5 lines lower on the main page.

Yay, let's let our bigs deal with guys driving straight at them every possession! Let's deal with 1 v 2 or 2 v 3 situations on the back-end by selling out on the front end! Sounds like a recipe for success!

Why don't the Jazz just willingly give up drives every possession because they have Rudy Gobert? That's essentially what you're suggesting we do...

GTjr.'s defense is to valuable to not have him at the 3. The guy's hands are very active not unlike Klay Thompson's against 1-5. Ive watch Trents D and he anticipates very well and he uses his body too.
You must have at least one good Defender at the 1-3 starting positions.

Utah does exactly that lmao, their entire defensive scheme is funnel everything towards Gobert.

Instead, they try to put their opponents in “situations that are low percentage,” like shots with Gobert around, or contested mid-range efforts with Gobert down low set to rebound. Sometimes, the Jazz will allow a player to go into the paint in order to prevent him from taking a pull-up 3-pointer, something that wouldn’t have been encouraged in Memphis.

“I have to get used to just funneling guys in the paint,” Conley said after the game. "If you get beat, just stay on their hip and funnel them to the big fella [Gobert] and let him do what he does,” Conley said. “I’m so used to trying to stop everybody.”

Second Spectrum keeps a team-level metric called “blowby frequency,” tracking how often a driving offensive player gets both shoulders past his defender before reaching the rim. When Jazz perimeter defenders get “blown by” with Gobert on the court behind them, they allow just 0.92 points per chance, per a source familiar with the data, which would rank among the NBA’s five stingiest teams.

When Gobert sits? That number balloons to 1.05 points per chance, a borderline top-10 highest figure among teams.

Theres a difference between "funneling" and allowing straight line drives because you have a SF with the footspeed of a C selling out on the 3pt line. Melo isnt staying on anyone's hip. Conley's quote was also in reference to pullup 3s, not every action.

I don’t have to say anything to bullshit, which is what your response was. You were wrong about Utah, it’s ok. But it’s also funny that you’re actively gonna root for the Melo experiment to fail.

I can’t imagine watching my team like that, must be fun.

Trent is a great defender. Before the shutdown, he was defending like he wanted to get paid the big bucks.

He seems to play better with long hair. I think there's racism in what I'm saying though.

I wasn't. I explained the vast differences and some of the context you were ignoring. Simple basketball discussion, that you decided to get childish and tell me to get the fuck out over. I've seen you have this type of reaction quite a bit on this forum. You should relax, it's not a big deal.

If you actually think that I'm going to root against the team, you're really far off-base. Keep shitposting though, its entertaining :twothumbs:

Does he have the best body frame on our roster to try guard LeBron?

You know, he probably does. What other option do we really have? Trent is way too small. Collins is too weak. I guess there's Hezonja. Mario has actually been playing not as shitty as he used to lately.

The nice thing about a series is we can throw him out there and see how he does, and if it doesn't work well, we probably tried it because we were going to lose anyway.

With our backs against the wall in the bubble, Stotts hasn't had the opportunity to experiment much. This will definitely be a series where we have to try all sorts of different looks.
