its huge though. Between him and Dame. They can recruit other players like i dont think weve ever been able to do before.

With Dame saying Blazers for life and this news, vets may be more willing to sign for cheap to fill out our bench. Mayne they talk whitside into taking less and staying as well.
If we can sign Melo to cheap i think it has a huge snowball effect on who else we can get without overpaying.

I'm going to be the asshole (I know, shocking, right?) and say I don't want him to stay. He puts everyone in an awkward position. Now we have to offer him a bigger contract, otherwise we're disrespecting him. We have to start him, because he's MELO and he's ALWAYS started, and let's face it, he's too WAY too slow for SF and he's not a good enough rebounder (or defender) for PF. In his youth his ungodly (but never particularly efficient) scoring ability meant you could overlook his other flaws, but the flaws have gotten worse with age and his scoring is getting worse. He was good in the bubble, I grant that, but not so good (until the last game) in the playoffs, and he was pretty bad for a lot of the regular season. Fly free, Melo! Go join some super team with a buddy! Play in LA!

I really don't want Melo back. If they give him anything more than the BAE it's going to be really bad. He stunts the development of our other wings, and what he brings is not necessarily what we need.

I'd be fine if he came off the bench in a limited scorers role, but I just can't see Stotts having the balls to do that.

Best case scenario (other than him not staying): he agrees to be the Lou Williams bench scorer. But we are already working at a defensive disadvantage with Dame and CJ at guard, we just can't afford to have a THIRD major player be such a defensive minus. Aren't we all sick of our defense sucking ass?

    MELO BETTER BE BACK!!!!!
He became a favorite of mine and i know many others.
The exact opposite of the selfish ball hogging no defense cancer in the locker room player we were believed he was.
I really enjoyed having Carmelo Anthony this year, and will be hugely disappointed if he doesn't finish his HOF career here.
It was great to see him shooting instead of Harkless and Aminu.
    LOVE MELO!!

The only thing worse than having a crappy player on your team is having a crappy player with an ego who is overrated and plays lots of minutes and takes lots of shots.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Cool, hopefully he wants to be back on a veteran's minimum contract and bench scorer role.

who said that. Why do you think that? If he likes it here and agrees to take less to be a part of something great, why would we be disrespecting him in doing so?

i don't think anyone wants him here if we need to pay him full dollar value.

Melos had a 8.2 PER in the Lakers series, he can't be a starter next year

The problem to me is you can’t play him and CJ together much. Either has value as a good shooter, occasional isolation guy, or end of shot clock creator (CJ is better at all three at this point). But they both have bad D, stop the ball, don’t run the break and don’t screen for others or use screens very well.

I think either paired wit a couple of wing dogs would have value.

    Dame/Trent/jrue holiday/melo/nurk - killer lineup.

I think the difference is cj is good for they role for 30 mpg, Carmelo 20 mpg. But if we got good value for cj and Carmelo was open to a reasonable deal and reduced playing time (but still starting/closing) seems like a good fit.

I don't mind us signing Melo again to a right contract. I don't think money is going be a big deal for him due that he probably manage his well through his career. To me it's a coaches decision if he come off the bench or starts. If I was a coach it probably be coming off the bench. Now someone said something about Whiteside to come back. I really don't what him back due he probably had 2 or 3 impact games in the bubble the rest of the time he act like he didn't want to be there.

Melo is an excellent player coach ...I think he's helped our bench guys out big time....his post game interviews are articulate and he's a keeper...let him play it out in wine country here...after nine years of Lamarcus post game interviews...y'know.....Melo is confident and even keeled. I think we are the perfect place for his skillset and the perfect culture for his mental health about the game...he's really put in a lot of work to get in shape...he hasn't been trim like this in years. I have no problem cheering for him to retire a Blazer

I like that he likes us, and he was great this year, but can we admit he's not a very good shooter anymore? Or at least wildly streaky?

Yeah he’s definitely streaky. His post game is annoyingly inconsistent. His 3 point game I feel like it more consistent, which is why a lot of us want him to focus on shooting 3s not long mid range shot

I think I'll take my chances with him instead of Mario and whoever else getting those minutes.
