If an offense is good because of an bunch of 1v1 and pick n roll, that's not because of the coach. That doesnt mean the coach is automatically not responsible for their defense...

I think we had a really good shooting night. Especially Melo. He doesn't do that every night.

BTW, maybe you are right Kingspeed, maybe Melo is pretty damn clutch.

The PnR is a HUGE part of every NBA offense. So is 1 on 1 iso. Why does everyone love D’antoni? They just come down and jack threes? Is that offensive wizardry?

Because his teams get better when he takes them on? Stotts is a very poor man's Dantoni.

Sadly, we will likely be having this conversation again next year after losing 4 in a row to end the season....or maybe get red hot and only lose 4 of the last 5......like the last 7 years in a row?

Portland..... where a .344 Playoff winning percentage gets you a lifetime contract?

Portland didn’t get better when Stotts took over from Nate?

....and Stotts had some kid named Dame. Perhaps that helped a little.

Are you upset it's got Dame a lifetime contract?

    • It's not Dame's job to figure out how to attack a trap.....8 years running.
    • It's not Dame's call to actually devise a strategy to leave Steph Curry open in the opening game of a Playoff series.
    • It's not Dame's job to design an offense where you are continually last or next to last in assists year after year after year.

This list could go on and on....but please, shadow point the blame on Dame and see how that works out.

Any coach can coach that stuff. It's super basic not saying the shouldn't run it or anything, just that they need to be able to adapt when it's not working.

Maybe I’m wrong but I thiiiiink Nate coached LaMarcus and Brandon Roy? He won 50% of his games here. Stotts has won 55%. So Stotts made things “better”. But hey let’s bring in offensive genius Dantoni who will so insightfully tell the team to shoot threes every time down. I mean Dantoni has really been great on offense with such bad offensively players. And his teams win championships so let’s do it!

Who the fuck said bring in D’Antoni? Where is this nonsense coming from? If you love Stotts and his coaching style then just say so - no need to put words in people’s mouths. There is a fairly large faction of fans both on this board and outside this board that want to see change, and one of the more obvious things a team can do to shake things up is to change the coach. Stotts has had eight years to develop this team into a contender yet I see zero growth in the sophistication of his offensive or defensive sets. He’s running the same stuff now that he did in season 1. If you love mediocrity and first round exits by all means keep Stotts around. The rest of us want to see a change in the style of basketball this team plays - akin to what Broussard mentioned about additional ball and player movement (not just a weave with a few handoffs). I don’t see why so many folks are so opposed to making a coaching change. It’s not as if we’re talking about a top tier coach that has led this team to the promised land, right?

It's weird. I have met people who are fans of individual players rather than teams, but I don't recall ever before meeting people who were fans of a coach first and foremost. Sorry, but I find that really strange.

I dont think its about people being a fan of the coach before a team. I think some people just believe coaches get blamed for too much, and get too much credit too.

Regardless of whether I like Dantoni's overall game plan, he's consistently a contender. His Rockets team was a very good regular season defensive team and THE BEST defensive team in the playoffs thus far.

Stotts wishes he could compare himself to Dantoni. That's just facts and records.
