Bill Barr compares national coronavirus lockdown to SLAVERY: AG says it is one of the 'greatest intrusions on civil liberties in American history' - as he encourages sedition charges for violent BLM protesters
    • Barr spoke out at the Constitution Day celebration at Hillsdale College in Michigan on Wednesday
    • 'Putting a national lockdown, stay at home orders, is like house arrest,' Barr said
    • 'Other than slavery, which was a different kind of restraint, this is the greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history,' the US AG added
    • Barr told federal district attorneys in a call last week that a law against plotting to overthrow the government was among charges they could use on protesters
    • In order to prove sedition, they would have to prove imminent danger to government officials or agents as part of a conspiracy
    • Another statute could bring federal charges on someone who obstructs law enforcement responding to unrest
    • Two people on the call said Barr has asked whether charges could be brought on Seattle's Mayor Jenny Durkan for allowing people to create a police-free zone
    • Trump said Wednesday: 'If you have a violent demonstration, yes, we will put it down very very quickly'

Barr also ranted about unknown evil people bribing mail carriers to do something nefarious to absentee ballots. Gone full Q Anon.

the give me liberty or give me death mantra is getting old.
After balking at masks, pastor and church staff in North Idaho contract COVID-19
A Coeur d’Alene pastor who opened his large church in early May for in-person services that allowed and even encouraged unmasked congregants to gather has been recovering from COVID-19 at the Kootenai Health intensive care unit.
    https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2020/sep/16/after-balking-at-masks-pastor-and-church-staff-in-/
Paul Van Noy, the senior pastor at Candlelight Christian Fellowship, has spent the past two weeks in the ICU while his wife, Brenda Van Noy, recovered from her own bout with COVID-19 at home. Five other church staff have been infected, said Eric Reade, body ministry coordinator the church.
While masks are mandated in Kootenai County Van Noy has expressed doubts about the efficacy of mask-wearing to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. He is known to bring his political views to the pulpit.Van Noy said in a July 17 post that he didn’t believe masks would prevent spread, while also claiming the church could ignore the order because it isn’t a public place. He reiterated that the virus is a threat.Candlelight’s stance on mask-wearing and social-distancing has not changed since Van Noys’ diagnosis.

Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, also testified to the Senate on Wednesday that face masks “are more guaranteed” to protect the public than a vaccine.

___“Face masks, these face masks, are the most important, powerful public health tool we have, ___and I will continue to appeal for all Americans, all individuals in our country, to embrace these face coverings,” Redfield said Wednesday, during his hearing before the Senate Committee on Appropriations. “I’ve said that if we did it for six, eight, ten, twelve weeks, we’d bring this pandemic under control. We have clear scientific evidence they work, and they are our best defense.

I guess he can just give up that "Non-Profit" status then right?

let's just say not everyone thinks that barr's premise is acceptable.
Clyburn slams Barr for equating 'human bondage to expert advice to save lives'
    https://thehill.com/homenews/house/...-human-bondage-to-expert-advice-to-save-lives
“It is incredible that the chief law enforcement officer in this country would equate human bondage to expert advice to save lives,” Clyburn said on CNN’s “New Day.” “Slavery was not about saving lives, it was about devaluing the lives. This pandemic is a threat to human life and the experts — the medical experts, the scientists, are telling us what it takes to respond successfully to this pandemic.”

I’d like to know how the folks (the one who are still alive) felt about the impact on their civil liberties caused by rationing, curfews, black outs, etc, etc, etc imposed on them during WWII. I have have read fairly extensively on that war and have yet to come up with anything that addresses resentment or recalcitrance on any scale of any size. They all sucked it up and pulled together for the common good in order to get through a bad situation. What a concept, eh? Hopefully Barr is going to prison as soon as the pretender is ejected from The People’s House......

The headline is intentionally inaccurate. He did not compare the COVID lockdown to slavery; in fact, he excluded slavery from the comparison of this COVID lockdown to other intrusions on liberty. What he compared this to was house arrest. He then made a point to say that slavery was a different situation, that this could not be compared to slavery.

This is the kind of stuff that prompted the "fake news" mantra.

Barr quotes that i will refute.
"Most of the governors do what bureaucrats always do, which is they ... defy common sense," Barr said Wednesday. "They treat free citizens as babies that can't take responsibility for themselves and others."

there are way to many examples of "common sense" being lacking to the endangerment of the general and especially vulnerable population. partying on campus, sturgis, behavior in lieu of mask wearing dispite advice and evidence.

"We have to give business people an opportunity, tell them what the rules are you know the masks, which rule of masks, you had this month...and then let them try to adapt their business to that and you'll have ingenuity and people will at least have the freedom to try to earn a living," he added.

is he advising the administration that he represents? no the governors. the president trends to contradiction of guidelines that go against his "gut feelings" despite evidence. again not a responsible response by either administration or populace.
"Again, the Obama administration, you know, had some of the people who were in Mueller's office writing their briefs in the Supreme Court. So maybe that explains something," he said Wednesday.

innuendo so only truly FAKE news. MAYBE? that explains something?

"You know, putting a national lockdown, stay at home orders, is like house arrest. Other than slavery, which was a different kind of restraint, this is the greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history," Barr said as a round of applause came from the crowd.

see uncle cliffy's daddy response concerning hyperbole here in comparison with WW2 government restrictions on civil liberties. after all, the leader of his administration tried for the mantle of "a wartime president" in the current crisis. infers IMHO that it is only 1 step down from slavery.
"I would nominate the WWII internment camps as a somewhat greater intrusion on liberty than suggesting people stay home to avoid getting sick." barfo

Actually, he said "other than slavery, which was a different kind of restraint this is the greatest intrusion on civil liberties..."

So, he certainly compared it to slavery and basically his equation is "slavery >= national quarantine > any other restriction"

So, he compared them, they are both restraints, and "other than" implies that slavery is either worse or equal. I would say the title stands, logically and using the rules of the English language.

Then you obviously don't understand why a "Church" is considered a "Non-Profit"organization.

Barr is as big a threat to our democracy as trump is

and this is no isolated babbling from Barr. He has significantly ratcheted up his bombastic bullshit over the last 2 weeks. He speaking out every day now. What he's doing IMO, is laying out the gound-work for using the DOJ to try and invalidate the election for several different bullshit reasons.

apparently, some people don't know what the word 'compare' means:

    upload_2020-9-17_10-51-40.png

    upload_2020-9-17_10-52-55.png

Barr absolutely did compare Covid policies to slavery

somebody can compare CJ to Stephen Curry. That does not mean they were saying the two players were at the same level

    the headline is accurate
