Anthony Carter said Wednesday that the Denver Nuggets are planning on exercising his one-year contract next season, paying $1.1 million. The eight-year NBA veteran said Nuggets coach George Karl told him he'd have a chance to compete with recently-acquired free agent Chucky Atkins to start at the point. Link

It's not good. AI should start at point, and the Nuggets should acquire a good SG. But Karl's the coach.

At this point I think they have to start AI at the SG position. And I don't think this is a bad move... I think he is there only point guard on the roster aside from Atkins and Iverson, and it's not like they're paying him $5 million.

First of all, we got Chucky Atkins and have Anthony Carter for a reason and than isn't to be backups to Allen Iverson. He is going to start at SG, and he will do good at shooting guard.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Serge @ Jul 21 2007, 12:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>If they trade Camby Nene can be the C, but that is if Martin comes back.</div>It is a team, not just Allen Iverson with his Denver Nuggets. We aren't going to trade Camby for a shooting guard because we will have even worse defense and we got Chucky Atkins. K-Mart won't be healthy this season, or at least it is highly unlikely he will. He has been bothered with injuries ever since he came here and it is taking a toll on him. Nene and K-Mart with a solid SG won't be nearly as good as Camby and Nene with K-Mart off the bench.

Re: Nuggets will excercise Carter's option

Hess has had Kmart on a pretty intense workout/rehab schedule this offseason and hes supposed to be back around 100% by training camp. I'd say 20-25 mpg is very realistic and I think he'll surprise a lot of people out there who think hes nothing but overpaid garbage who can't play anymore. The way I see it, unless we sign a veteran SG for cheap (IMO Eddie Jones being the most realistic one), Iverson will be starting at the two guard along with Chuck or Carter. Carter was impressive in that last playoff game and hes not a terrible defender, unlike just about everyone else in our backcourt. So I'd be ok with him starting at point. The only thing I'm worried of is Karl falling in love with Atkins/Carter and playing one of them far too often along side Iverson (similar to what happened with Blake last season). I'd like to see Carter/Atkins get at most 25mpg combined. Generally most of that time would be next to Iverson, except the five minutes each game hes on the bench. The rest of the game AI should be at point with JR/Wafer/Khouba at the two guard.
