Slow down. The podcasts I respect are...

    The Bill Simmons Show
    The Ringer NBA Show,
(esp The Mismatch with Chris Vernon & Kevin O'Connor but also Group Chat when Jonathan Tjarks is on)
    The Lowe Post
    No Dunks
    Open Floor: SI's NBA Show

It was mentioned on either The Bill Simmons Show or The Ringer NBA Show (or maybe it was Jackie MacMullan, who I adore) that Jerry West values competitors and he will want to get rid of Paul George if he has any say in it. These are informed people who work in the business. I have no opinion about Jerry West. I don't know the guy and I haven't worked with him or even met him. I also don't know the answer to my thread title. Do we still want Paul George? I don't know. He used to be clutch in the playoffs like when he was 22 years old. Now something is wrong. But if we could get him without giving up CJ/Dame/Nurk core, I say go for it.

The Pelicans got prime healthy Cousins for Buddy Hield. And Paul George's stock has dropped like a lead balloon. The Ariza/Trent/1st would improve the Clippers, no question. If a trade improves your team, you look at it. Remember after next season, PG can leave for NOTHING. If that happens, the Clippers are sunk for a decade or more. The 16th pick gives them youth for the future. It's a crapshoot pick but both Nurkic and Vucevic have been picked with the 16th pick so there's something there.

In my experience (Which granted is limited because i'm just a fan) the fan forum boards feed of these types of statements from major writers and sports journalists. Lets take Jackie Mac for example.
If Jackie Mac had said something like that it would be all over the Clippers forum threads. There would even be threads about what Jackie said. Just like there would be here if lets say the Blazers second option (CJ) were mentioned in such a way.
You can bet if Jackie Mac had said Neil Olshey doesn't think CJ is the kind of competitor he values and was willing to let him go on the cheap somebody would be jumping to make a thread about it. Most likely you. Just like they do every time JQ, JC or Dwight say something to make headlines. If Jackie Mac, Zach Lowe, Bill Simmons, Chris Vernon, Andrew Sharp or Ben Golliver were to say these things they would be all over Clipper Nation or Clipper Talk or Clipperholics.

Yes there have been fans that are down on PG13. But even they know Paul George isn't going anywhere for Trevor Ariza and a draft pick and a guy who comes off the bench in Gary Trent. As much as i love what Gary Trent has brought and with as much hope as i have for his future he ain't worth all that.
The craziest part of this statement is the IF HE HAS ANY SAY IN IT part. Of course he would have say in it? Why else would he even be there as a consultant?

PG can still game, bad move if the clippers let him go. Get rid of lou Williams who was ineffective and blowing layups. I love sweet lou but is he a "winner"?

Blame leonard. How can you do load management to ensure you kill in the playoffs then you don't really go crazy. The guy isn't a leader. I LOVE leonard but he is not a natural born leader, eg like dame.

First off Paul George is not going anywhere. But if he was, the Clips would want to improve, not move sideways. So that means we would have to overpay for him unless he was demanding to be traded. Which he is not.

So would I overpay for him and his 38 million-plus that he would command in 2022 and after? No. Would I take him for CJ and Hood, and a draft pick? Sure I think a Dame, Trent, PG line up with Nurk and a PF would be pretty good. But let's not forget Dame and PG aren't exactly best buds and PG has wanted to play in LA. But it ain't happening.

    Of course.
PG hasn't played with a real leader, maybe ever - and he sure isn't one.

PG for CJ would re-energize my fandom, for sure.

They might do it for CJ and a 1st though and I'd rather make that move anyway. I think Gary is more valuable to us than CJ is at this point because people know what CJ can do so he has a defined value in the league and CJ is making a boatload of cash. If we could get PG13 for CJ and lets say our 2021 first rounder, I would pull the trigger on that hell I'd even throw in the 2023 first if they needed it.

Without even worrying about what we might get with the MLE, the draft and Carmelo we would have Dame, Gary, PG, Zach, Nurk, Ariza, hopefully Hoodie, Nas and Ant. Obviously that group needs a backup guard who can defend both guard positions and facilitate the offense and a backup big. If we could get those two things and get Melo and Wenyen to sign for the non-bird exemption we would be in business. Dame, Gary, Paul George, Zach, Nurk, Melo, Michael Carter Williams, Nerlens Noel, Ariza and Hoodie would be the rotation while developing and getting spot minutes for Nas, Ant, Wenyen, the 16th pick and 46th pick. Besides doing all of that the only other priority this off season would be to try and sign Gary to a three year extension that's good for the team and him, that makes him a restricted free agent when it's up.

Dame, PG13 and Nurk are as good as any other "big 3" in the league. You can sub Ariza or Melo in the starting lineup for Zach if that makes you feel better about the rotation but that rotation could beat any team in the league.

Bill Simmons is not an NBA or basketball expert btw. You should take his opinions at the same value as a poster here

I'd bet my life savings that that trade wouldnt happen. You know why? Its not possible, the salaries aren't even close to matching and the Clippers wouldnt consider that anyway. They just wouldnt. Not enough value and they wouldnt contend after that. Theyd rather contend another year and risk him leaving then to take that trade package. And if they did want to trade him, they could get more back. This is just like your "Harden trade".

Yeah, I didn't think that 13 million would fit into the 125% rule when trading it for 30 million. We'd have to get that 13 up to at least 24 or 24.5 to make it work and we just don't have the salaries to do that unless Hoodie and Rio opted in then we included them and Zach but then we'd have no roster so...

LMAO you’re wild. You don’t think the 76ers would trade two first rounders to pair PG up with Embiid/Simmons? You don’t think the Heat would trade two first rounders to pair PG up with Jimmy/Bam? You don’t think the Lakers would find a way to pair PG with Davis/Lebron if all it took was one first rounder? You could go on and on. The Nuggets just beat PG but if they knew that all it took to get PG is Barton, Harris, Porter, and 1-2 first rounders, they offer that in a heartbeat. That offer already is better than Portland’s.

I can't remember where the cut-offs for 175%, 125%, and 5 million are in the unbalanced trade rules. Portland may be dealing with the 5 million allowance is a big trade like that

or maybe I'm thinking of the previous CBA. And of course, things could change dramatically if the salary cap falls by 20 million

anybody know what the new deadline is for the owners declaring force majeure?

    175% until 17% is $5M, then it's $5M until 125% is more the basically.

That's is the whole point! He is basing this theory and the entire thread on the idea that Paul George has way less value now and that the Clipper management doesn't want him on the team because there is a Podcast somewhere that he respects that says Jerry West feels Paul George is not a type of competitor he is interested in having on the team any longer.

Of course he cannot come up with the actual name of the person that said that and is deflecting the question when asked about it. If you are going to base a thread on a rumor then say it's a rumor. If someone of any notability has said this then post that link. If it is simply a personal opinion and a pipe dream (That is acceptable by the way. We do that here) then run with that. There is no shame in saying this would be "Cool" if this or that happened. But try to keep it real?
