According to multiple league sources, the New Jersey Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Charlotte Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte. One source insisted Charlotte part-owner Michael Jordan squashed the deal.Link

Yeah, thank god that didn't go through. I would keep Lamar over Wallace anyday. Wallace is a good player, no doubt. His defense as well as shotblocking is great, but Lamar is just more talented. I just don't see a reason to do that trade. That would have been a sweet deal for Jersey though.

It would have been a great deal for everyone besides the Lakers. As I understand, Wallace isn't a very consistent player. I could be wrong though. I just remember BCB posting stuff about how G-Force was sucking it up at one point.

Odom is better than Wallace...but not that much better where LA should get Felton or Okafor...like Justice said, that wouldve been idiotic for the Bobcats.

I'm pretty sure there's no one on the Nets or Lakers that would make up for losing him.

I heard this was going to happen before the draft, and the Lakers would get Wallace and the 8th.Noah and Bynum, plus expirings sent to Minnesota for KGMihmKGWallaceKobeCrittBynumNoahDavis?BrewerFoye

People make it seem like this trade would have been horrible for the Lakers, but I don't think it would have been that bad at all. Wallace is one of the better defenders in the NBA, and the Lakers were one of the worst defensive teams last seasons giving up 103 points a game. The Lakers would get the same point production from Wallace as they do Odom, and a couple less rebounds a game. But with Mihm coming back, along with an improving Bynum, and Brown, those rebounds can be made up easily. I really don't see how this trade would have been that bad for the Lakers, honestly.

Gerald Wallace is potentially the best player in that trade. Right now I'd say Lamar Odom is the best of the three, but Gerald Wallace is just 24 years old, and once he becomes more of a consistent player, he will be an elite small forward. During the final three months of the season, Gerald posted some sick numbers. Something like 21 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assits, 2 steals, and a block. Gerald's numbers have risen every year since he's become a starter, and next year we will see him continue that trend. Again, cosistency is a big problem for him, but once he reaches Lamar's age I'm sure he will be a very cosistent star on both ends of the court.
