So here is the problem with trying to "Fast Track' a vaccine.
    "unexplained neurological symptoms."

This is a huge setback. It's not the first and it most likely will not be the last.
    https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/25/health/astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-trial-questions-fda/index.html

"The trial has been on hold in the United States for more than two weeks, and regulators face the task of trying to figure out if these illnesses were random and disconnected from the vaccine, or if they are related to the vaccine.
AstraZeneca and its partner, the University of Oxford, have given various accounts of the sick volunteers."

I think it was @Chris Craig that was explaining how the process works. They come up with a vaccine and then trial. Then find problems and fix those then Trial again. And so on....

"Mark Slifka, an immunologist, said it's particularly concerning because information posted on Oxford's website said both participants suffered neurological illnesses.
"That's why this is so shocking to me -- these are both neurological diseases, and that by itself is a red flag," said Slifka, a professor at the Oregon Health & Science University."

Can't experience the much worse 2nd wave if you never get out of the 1st wave.

It’s one vaccine. There are dozens of other ones. It’s unfortunate that the one that ran into these issues is one of the top ones that were expected to get to market first. Hopefully, the others that are furthest along won’t hit similar snags.

This is exactly what I was talking about. There is no way to quickly make a problem free vaccine on the first go around. When you you attempt to expedite a result you often will have worse adverse effects as we see here.

Process is about refining the vaccine. You start with the first iteration. You test for adverse reactions. You work to remove/stabilize those negative effects. You have a 2nd iteration. You test it again. You keep an eye out for the side effects from the first iteration and hope not to see them. You look for further adverse effects, you weed them out. Create further iterations. Wash, rinse, repeat until you have a workable vaccine that is safe.

That is the "Furthest Along" and it is the most highly funded multinational vaccine. The others that might be further are not being created in this country creating other obstacles to getting the FDA approval. Are you going to jump right out there and try Russia's vaccine? The best hope for a vaccine to get widespread approval IMO will be to go multinational based. This is US, UK, Sweden, and Poland.

I'm not following your argument. AstraZenica is a British company and its vaccine, the one having some problems, is the one that is being developed using University of Oxford research. Moderna's vaccine is just as far along and it's an American company. Pfizer/BioNTech is an American company that has a vaccine in Phase 3 trials. Johnson & Johnson is an American company with a vaccine in Phase 3 trials. Operation Warp Speed has given funding to all of those companies and many more.

Here's a link to a vaccine tracker that shows the status of the dozens of vaccines under development:

Sorry that your dad has had such a loss in so short of a time. Being in my late 60s and having a couple of risk factors, I'm doing my best to hide from the virus.

    AstraZenica is a Multinational Company

AstraZeneca PLC (/ˌæstrəˈzɛnəkə/) is a British multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company with its global headquarters in Cambridge, England.[3] Its R&D is concentrated in Cambridge, Mölndal in Sweden, and Maryland and Toronto in North America.[4] AstraZeneca has a portfolio of products for major disease areas including cancer, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infection, neuroscience, respiratory and inflammation.[5]

The company was founded in 1999 through the merger of the Swedish Astra AB and the British Zeneca Group[6][7] (itself formed by the demerger of the pharmaceutical operations of Imperial Chemical Industries in 1993). Since the merger it has been among the world's largest pharmaceutical companies and has made numerous corporate acquisitions, including Cambridge Antibody Technology (in 2006), MedImmune (in 2007), Spirogen (in 2013) and Definiens (by MedImmune in 2014).

Now go read your own link. Cansino is Chinese. Not gonna pass FDA here in the States
AstraZeneca is second on the list and most heavily funded MULTINATIONAL VACCINE
Johnson and Johnson is still just past phase 3 and Moderna has not posted results at all.
Phizer is still on 2/3 but they are also very well funded. So lets hope!

My argument as you are calling it is simple.
There is no argument. This was one of the furthest along most highly finance vaccines and it has hit a snag. This is to be expected and we will need to be cautious moving forward in the vaccine work.
NO A VACCIINE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE BY ELECTION DAY!
