I like this as a realistic trade option. Who are the Jazz interested in that range though? Maxey, Anthony, Maledon, and Lewis will all be in that range if they are looking for a PG.

Would you slide Ingles over to starting PF next to Nurk and play C off the bench or start him at SF? Don’t know how much validity there is to rumors that Zach would rather play C, but if that’s the case, having Ingles start at PF with Zach off the bench would be a nice option.

That would leave us with a MLE, #23, and #46 to find a backup PG and a backup big/starting SF.

Not sure if this has been proposed:

jimmy butler + Miami #1 pick

    CJ + Collins + Simons

Dame / draft pick / vet
    Trent / Vet free agent
    Butler / Hood
    Melo / Gabriel
    Nurk / Whiteside

    trade Ariza, Mario

    re-Sign Whiteside

Miami is 1 game away from the NBA Finals. They're not gonna trade Butler this offseason.

I don't think teams usually trade their best player away when they just found magic like the Heat seem to have. I would expect the Heat to try and keep this team together, including Dragic and just add with the MLE.

    putting it crudely, I'd say a 50 cent piece + a dime + a nickel do not = a dollar + a dime

I think KAT is probably the best offensive big in the entire league. If he wants out, I'd give up everyone but Dame to land him. Would be the best big-guard duo in the league.

We probably could have done a CJ for Butler type trade when Butler got shopped by the Bulls. That ship sailed years ago.

I agree about Kat's offensive talent....it's immense. What I'm wondering is if any big man, unless he's a unicorn, can be the key to contention by offense alone in this 'new' NBA?

Obviously, Lebron and AD are making it work but they are both 2-way players and AD plays as much like a wing as he does a big on offense while bringing paint defense and rim protection on the other end

meanwhile, Dame & Kat are both essentially 1-way players. In fact, if you look at DRPM ranking this last season for the 72 C's the stat tracked you'll see this:

    upload_2020-9-25_10-14-30.png

    yikes!!

sure seems like paint defense and rim protection are still the most important attributes for a C or big.

there can be some value in zigging while the rest of the league is zagging, but IIRC, it seems history is filled with teams ultimately failing that tried to achieve overpowering offenses. Maybe Dallas is the only exception?

Yes, it's a big "NO" on KAT for me. I like the suggestion of a KAT - Embiid swap. Horford and KAT could probably coexist a lot better than Horford-Embiid, and Philly are stuck with Horford and his horrible contract. Plus if you have a defender as god-awful as KAT, you need a defender as awesome as Ben Simmons. Likewise Russell and Embiid.

PLUS: if D'Antoni really is going to be the next coach of Philly, there's no way he can use Embiid, but a shooter like KAT might work.

Put him on the right team with the right partner and he'll be better. Some guys in the league I'm probably irrationally crazy over. Ben Simmons is one. Kat is the other

How many bigs in the history of the league are better offensively than KAT? Hes a 7 footer putting up 25/10 on 50/40/85 efficiency with high volume on a yearly basis.

Don't think I'm exaggerating. He might be the best offensive big man in the history of the game.

Can't just dismiss that kinda talent, it's the kind you build around to mitigate his weaknesses. Minny has been pathetic in that respect. They ruined KGs career and are doing the same with KAT.

KAT and Dame would be a top 5 duo in the NBA. Up there with LeBron/AD, Jokic/Murray, Luka/Porzingis and Simmons/Embiid.

It would be an insanely effective pick and roll combo.

I'd probably go Dirk over KAT, but not by much.

They got Jimmy Butler and he became so disgusted he left. As good as KAT is on offense, he may be worse on defense. And don't mention KG and KAT in the same sentence. KG was league MVP and actually led Minny to the playoffs. Now KAT and Kevin Love (who also was regarded as a stud in Minny) - those really are comparable.

We'd finally see a game where both teams scored in the 160s.

If we could lay the ground works for getting KAT that would be awesome.

would have to probably involve another team and us trading CJ and Nurk.

Let's be honest. Jimmy never wanted to be there. He pulled some messed up stuff like calling espn to the practice facility so he could interview with Rachel Nichols after embarrassing his teammates. Butler is a great player and deserves the accolades he's getting now but he was a terrible fit with that roster in Minny.
