Sounds like a buyout is coming, that's why Staal accepted the deal. Basically the Rangers gave them a 2nd next year to clear 5.7 mill from the cap this year. Smart, and I wonder if a similar Hank deal is next - maybe to Ottawa.

He was a good Ranger and solid soldier for 13 seasons. The cap space is obviously wonderful as I didn't see this move coming.

Thanks for a great career Marc, hell of a competitor. He powered through an awful injury that would have ended most careers and was a class act off the ice. Played Ovechkin and Crosby real tough during those early 2010s playoff runs. Here's to hoping he stays healthy in the future.

That's big opening up 5m in space for a 2nd which we don't really need that badly. Kudos to #18 for a nice stretch on Broadway. Could even trade both 3rds to move into the 2nd again if they like someone that much.

Yep. Damn good Ranger. Thanks. Sucks to give up a second but they can make that up quite easily with guys they will move.

Read an article about them maybe doing something similar with Hank. Convince him to waive his NTC and accept a deal knowing he will be bought out right away (which I am sure Staal will be). I saw maybe the 22nd pick this year and Hank to Ottawa, which would help them get to the floor, and clear the full 8.5 off our books. I would do that. Imagine if we can get rid of Hank's 8.5 on top of Staal's 5.7. That would be 14.2 off the books, allowing us to re-sign the RFA's, and give us some room to add a solid FA as well (maybe a LD to pair with Trouba). Otherwise I guess a buyout of Hank, but I don't love that. Only save 3 mill, with 5.5 of dead space this year, and a 1.5 mill penalty next year. Not a fan of that option. Maybe after the Staal deal they don't deal another pick to get rid of Hank's contract, but who knows.

If they can get rid of Lundqvists full contract for one of the extra 3rds plus maybe Andersson and a surplus D prospect like Reunanen that would be good.

Getting rid of Andersson would be one of the dumbest things they have done in years. They need him badly to come back. Buchnevich is the dipshit they need to get rid of. Hopefully to the Flames with Reunanen or Jones for two 2nds and Bennett who isn't a pussy.

I just don't know with him dump, even if he comes back is he good enough to crack this lineup going forward? I think it better to try and use him for something like moving a contract than roll the dice he dosen't pan out, which he hasn't shown much so far.

Andersson will get his shit together. He was rushed. He has the intangibles our pussy role players lack. I want Bennett and have for a while. Put a line together of Lemieux-Andersson-Bennett and you have a nightmare to play against. Especially come playoff time. Buchnevich, fuck him. He's a moron.

I guess if he can't even become a 4th liner that's pretty damn bad for a 7th overall pick.

Perhaps but if he contributes to winning a cup I don't give a shit. Plus he's beasting it on faceoffs early on in the SHL. We need that badly.

Better late than never for Staal, let the rebuild reach conclusion with Hank's departure. What a shame Marc's brother was such a dirtbag , who knows what could have been .As far as Lias is concerned I hope he has gotten his shit together, going to be awkward going back to the Rangers after quitting on them and hard to justify the 7th pick if all he pans out to be is a 4th liner.

He was a good Ranger. Another guy from those great teams they had in the 2010s
