I want to buy a tablet. I'm not getting an iPad pro. I could build a new computer for that. I have a laptop. I don't need a tablet that's basically a thin laptop. So really it's between the air and the regular ipad. I know they're releasing a new version of the Air but I saw that it's going to be more expensive and basically just a slightly less expensive and crappier version of the pro. So.... is the current version of the Air worth the price? I just want it for streaming, surfing the web, and taking pictures or whatever. I don't need a laptop. Thoughts?
The air has twice the memory, a slightly bigger screen, a better front camera, and is thinner. Is that worth $170 more than the regular Ipad? You would be able to stream and web surf just fine on the regular Ipad, but have better pictures on the air.
Get the regular iPad on sale for 300. The iPad air is 599. Unless you are going to make videos on it, not worth it.
You have a beautiful new baby girl, go with the one with the better camera. Those memories and pictures are priceless.
Yeah, don't take photos on your iPad. You can make decent videos on the iPad though, the bigger memory is worth it then.
I really don't like i-pads. My wife is on her 2nd and I think the OS is awkward. To hell with Apple I much prefer Android as the OS. More customizable, less bloatware, and you can shut off unnecessary updates easily enough. IMO Samsung has some really nice 10" tablets in the 180-240 dollar range. 8" tablets are cheaper of course, but that's a fairly small screen make sure you go to the manufacturer's website of whatever you buy and check out the specs. To me battery size is important; I wouldn't get anything with less than a 5000 mAH battery. Also, compare the maximum size of the micro-sd card various tablets can take accept. You can save quite a bit money by having 64GB of onboard memory instead of 128GB or 256GB. That's where that micro-sd card makes a difference also, make sure the screen is tempered glass. Most are but some cheaper units have plastic screens https://www.amazon.com/s?k=samsung tablets&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
Everybody in our family has iPads. They get used daily for work and school. I always get my refurbished from Best Buy. Never had one issue all these years. Actually I will wait until the new ones come out and get the gen before refurbished or open box. As far as what I have, 1st gen iPad Pro. Use it ALL THE TIME. I've never taken pics or videos with it though.....use my iPhone for that. Mainly for movies/shows and magazines/books when I travel. Love it!
Thanks for the advice guys. My natural instinct is to want MOAR POWER so it's hard to ignore the better ipads. I'm also not sure how much hard drive space you really need if you save things to the cloud.
I have had an iPad since late 2012. I got an iPad Pro in late 2016. I have been really happy with the product throughout but the Pro is way more than most people need (unless you use it for work, etc). I also found, that while it’s nice to have cellular capability, I don’t use it very often as WiFi is pretty much everywhere. So my advice to to buy the basic iPad, without cellular data. So basically what El Prez said........
32 GB is woeful if you do anything more than browse facebook/web on it. Its worth to get the 128GB Ipad for $429 vs the 32 GB for 329. Things like being able to download movies to the ipad for flights, etc would make it worth it. That is much more practical than getting the air with 64GB for $599. Do you have an iphone too? The icloud drive sync for photos will take up a lot. The Cache for certain programs, even surfing the web takes a lot too but you can clear that. Those magic keyboards are fucking clutch though. I don't have an Ipad (well, I do but I only use it mounted in my bathroom for watching youtube and stuff while I brush my teef), but I have a Samsung Tab S6 with the keyboard, and it works great. don't need a separate charger, etc.
Agreed. Mine is only wifi and it's perfect. I guess it does depend on when or what you are using it for. I will use my iPhone if i need cellular service. As far as storage, 128G and am never even close to filling it. And that's with TONS of movies and shows on it. I'll do some editing on it, but nothing serious, just my kids sports stuff. I think i could get away with a normal size, but watching movies on that huge 13 inch screen is fantastic on the plane and hotel.
I have the 7th gen regular ipad. I love it. The camera isn't as good as the Air or Pro I believe, but it's fine for me. I always go Apple as the security is much better than Android products.
I have an iPad my employer bought me. I don't use it for much though, I haven't been able to find the use case vs. the iPhone or the macbook pro. barfo
You can mark bigger X signs on the map with your finger, vs the phone. Don't get me started on using a mouse to mark a spot with the Mac. Luddites
